i have a nicely built 97 gsx with all supporting mods for 500 whp. the car had a 60 trim 360 thrust turbo with 4 bolt outlet. the power is great .


should i buy the same turbo that was on the car, or does someone on here have first hand knowledge on maybe a better turbo. i want decent street manners but i want to be able to continue to put down 11.5 e.t 's
on the street this turbo did not like to run under 20 psi


please,,,,,,,, sum suggestions guys and gals
 
A 35R is likely one of the best for a "big" street turbo.. They can be found pretty cheap, but I don't like the idea of having to throw it out or pay 1k for a new chra section when those bearings go out. For that reason I'm on the hunt right now for a well mannered journal, and looking towards borg..
 
Holset HX40 FTW! I purchased mine for $150 off ebay and now I'm always on there looking for more deals. Was the 60 trim T3? Mitsu bolt-on. Either way BEP offers a housing for the Holsets to fit your need.
 
yeah, holset FTW. SUPER CHEAP and reliable at the same time. i figure if it could last 200k on a desiel at 30psi plus then it could take whatever i could throw at it!
 
Whats the specs on the hx40? 70lbs/min? What housings? etc.. I'm currently looking at borg s362's, which are 65lb'ers, in a divided T4... But I don't know much on the 40's..
 
Alot of options there. I have the 8-blade 58mm compressor which I think is rated at 55lb/min. The PRO 40 uses the 60mm 6-blade wheel which is rated at ~70 lb/min~, As for the housings BEP makes a Bolt-on Mitsu .55 a/r if I'm not mistaken but it's only available in stainless. They have come out with the T3 inlet/V-band outlet .70 a/r housing that I'm looking into rocking on my new project. Honestly type "Holset" into ebay and you'll find alot of great deals. I think someone is selling new WH1E's (hx40) for around 300 or something like that.

I would buy another 60-1. They can be had for under $900 brand new. Holsets are nice but you never know what your getting. Most diesels came with HX-35's and people sell them as 40's since you cant tell the difference without measuring the wheels.

Also HX-40's have been ran between 40psi-50psi its whole life and they have a huge failure rate when buying them used. HX-35's usually are in better shape since they run at lower boost levels and people ditch them for HX-40's. Also you want to make sure you get a 7 or 6 blade compressor wheel. Also you want one of the newer model holsets with the anti surge housing.
 
PTE til the day I die! 6152e is an awesome turbo to me. It's a standard 360 thrust, GT35r comp wheel, Garret stg 5 Turbine wheel rated for 630hp. There's another cover, I believe SP that they say will raise the rating to 680hp. I got mine for 800 bucks with 40 miles on it with oil feed and drain. Well worth it IMO.
 
Is it a 60 trim or a 60-1? I got my Holset used for 175 bucks... that was including the bep housing :sneaky: ... I have had no problems with failure because it was running constant high boost. Isn't that what these turbos are made for? You can get your ?60 trim? rebuilt but I say read the holset thread and see what they are about before making a decision. I and others will probably think and say you will be much happier with your money spent into a Holset turbo.

i dont really wan to hijack the thread but how hard is it to rebuild a holset, either a hx35 or hx40? i could get several from $100 to $350, some good ones, some bad. I dont really want to spend that much on it rebuilding it, probably $500 max, since brand new they cost around $850-1000. thanks
 
i am personally going with a BW turbo not sure of size yet, but i have a SCM6169S that i am getting rid of along with FP mani and O2 housing that is a cheaper solution.
