On a lighter note: did you see the launch light that was used at Canadian Nationals? Do you know who built it? Do you know what it is called? Bet that made you smile.

So what's the answers for those of use who couldn't attend?

Wow, how time flies when you're having fun. The last two years seem to have blended together.

In any event, I used to be a member of the Vancouver Chinese Motorsports Club, which hosted Canadian Nationals in 2003. While I was in Vancouver that year, I built them a launch light, which stages all cars fairly and then tells the driver when to go. I explained that I got the idea from the Susquehanna region of the SCCA, but they insisted on calling it the "Toby Light." I was so touched that I didn't argue. They took the light to Nationals and for the next few months I was sending out the design to Canadian clubs on a semi-regular basis.

For all I know, Dennis didn't go to CNACs in 2003 and I don't think that VCMC was the host this year, so he might not have seen my pride and joy. I just did a quick search of some Canadian sites, but couldn't find a pic. I did learn, however, that CACC has added a new category that seems to be close to Street Mod.

HotBits - www.motorsport-dist.com

I know I may seem like an advocate solely because I bought a set, but it's practicality is a major factor in it's appeal. And since no one mentioned it as an alternative, I'll pitch it in.

It seems that bOOSTd is building a car for race, if so, a cost-effective ($800 + Shipping, Customs, etc.) kit like the non-dampening-adjustable custom HotBits setup might be the right way to go. My only gripe is that sea freight from Malaysia is taking a bit longer than expected ...

Either way, check that site out and if you have any questions, e-mail Peter Reilly, he's pretty helpful when it comes to sound advice.

Whichever way you go, good luck to you. It's always good to see another DSM'er eager to tackle the twisties. :thumb:

I stand by that statement.

Nationals times are irrelevant, as SM ran in the mostly-wet. Charles had a good Nationals, and I'm proud of him, but I don't think he'd claim that his car is faster than mine.

The last Shootout Autocross I attended (2002) I coned every run save one. The dirty runs were at least a full second faster than every other car there. And my "slow" run was still good enough to win the Mach V Ultimate DSM Trophy, which was the fastest combined autocross time plus drag race time.

The car has two additional years of development on it, and it hasn't gotten slower.

Given that the car has the most number of SCCA National-level wins of any DSM (including wins this year) and given that it runs in the highest-prep-level, fastest class for cars on DOT-approved race rubber, it's hardly a stretch to call it the "fastest autox DSM ever built".

There were no "launch lights" at the Canadian National Championships this year, which was held at Sanair just outside of Montreal, not at the VCMC site at Boundary Bay.
