BEP 50-trim VS. MHI TD0620g

We ran 11.0 @ 123 on Tort's 20g setup with 550s. IDCs were well over 100% and AFRs were stupid lean (like mid 13s), timing was like 24 degrees thanks to a VPC and stock ECU, zero knock on C16. Stock 130K+ 7 bolt took everything we could throw at it and is still running strong in a friend's 2G auto. Sometimes I miss the old days :rocks:

Thats so badass. almost 10s on a 20g... oldschool ways of doing things just work... how many gt30+ turbos are stuck in the 11's out there
 
I figured I would update everyone. I decide to go with the 20g with the external gate, because of the incress in boost control. I also didnt feel like taking out the internal gate and everything on the 50-trim and I had a friend that wanted the 50-trim so I went that way and offset the price of buying the 20g with selling the 50-trim.

But I dont understand how some of you are saying that 650cc is not enough fuel. My buddy that parted out his pte 50-trim car made 380whp on 18psi with these injectors and eprom. He only dynoed at 18psi because he was having issues with holding any more than 18psi on the dyno. He regullary ran around on high 20's on the street and his logs shown no signs or running out of fuel. He also ran a best of 12.3@119mph with no 2nd gear and pump gas. So I think 650cc will be plenty for a daily driven 20g car as I dont plan on making an record breaking track times.

A 50-trim can supply 49 lbs/min and more than a few have seen around 480whp. 650s are ok. They are not enough to get the most out of the 50-trim compressor wheel. If you have an eprom, then don't bother w/ injectors that are not enough for your setup's potential. There is no difference with respect to daily driver aspects between 650 and, say, 1000cc. Don't let the big numbers spook you ;) . If you want 380whp then you'll be great w/ 650s. If you get the itch, you'll need more and another tune.

Internally gated BEP turbine housings have never been known to hold over 22ish psi. I've seen the gates blow open even lower. 20 psi for my 60-1. The flapper is great for preventing boost creep, but far too large to keep shut w/ a typical wastegate actuator. 18 psi is fine for 650s (typically). But a 50-trim can be wrung out MUCH higher.
 
I agree with dsm-onster, there is no reason to hold back potiential from one component because another component is lacking . To be honest I dont even see why most of us w/ daily driven cars limit ourselves to "race gas" power when decieding what turbos/ bolt ons to buy.
I dont like the idea that I have to spend all this extra money in gas to experience an extra 30-40 hp and when the tank runs out have to go back to a milder tune. Id rather set my car up to run x amount of power ALL the time and not worry about what my car can "get away with" when i have more octane.
(I.E. needing the race gas for lean afrs on the 550s with the 20g.)
Things I think are ok to be over done are exhaust, fuel systems, drivetrain parts because youll constantly reap the benefits as nessecity and power goes up... Now raising the fuel pressure isnt always a bad thing, my car when it used to still have 450s was set to run 47.6psi base fuel pressure ( which is the n/t 4g63 fpr which can be found in any local junkyard for almost nothing.) This allowed my 450s to flow more like 505cc's worth of fuel.
That allowed me to run a good 18psi on my evo3 when the average person with 450s on a evo3 would merely squeeze out 15psi before leaning out to uncomfortable levels. I have 850cc injs and I still run the same 47.6 base fuel pressure allowing roughly 900cc worth of flow now while still on the 16g... Do I still need this base fp, no but as my demand for more power increases in the future i know that I can take my injector a little further especially if I get into e85; and side note, this base fp helps lessen fuel pressure overrun as most over run on dsms ive seen hits about 48psi of fuel. I wouldnt recommend raising fuel pressure just for the sake of it though when bigger injectors could be bought. Theres other potiential downsides to it especially when trying to raise it beyond 50psi .

OP- Use your 50 trim so I can buy your 20g off of you for the cheap! LOL
