one of my belts are squeeking and i cant tell if its the timing belt? would that make a squeek noise if it was a bout to go bad? the car has 124000 miles and i got it at 120000 so i dont know when it was last changed if changed at all. please help if you can.

At 120k miles you should replace every belt, and the water pump, regardless. But that's probably your alternator belt.

the symptoms are when i cold start in the mornings i let it warm up for about 10 min before i drive it and when it first starts it squeeks loud for about a min, min and a half, then goes away, then when i leave it squeeks when i first take off until about 3k rmps then goes away until i turn a corner (left mainly?) n stop n go for about the first ten min then its fine when its actualy drivin for alittle bit. I dont know if that info. helps but please help me LOL

please dont say that here, people dont know how to act when they hear that!

but a quick test is to buy the belt dressing spray and ofcourse spray it on one belt at a time and you should find out as soon as it stops squeaking which belt it is, 9 times out of 10 its your ALT belt, inspect the condition of it for wear and tear, if its bad replace it, but if its good just go ahead and tighten it, its very easy to do.

Again, and for the last time, your timing belt is due, RIGHT NOW. Replace all of your belts and the water pump.

sounds like a good idea... i think i need to get a valve adjustment and new lifters for sure i have the "famous tick" going on and i dont like it LOL

try using seafoam, you can pour it in the fuel, Throttle body and OIL, when used in the oil try to use it right before an oil change because it dilutes the oil and can cause damage if left in for a long period of time. but nonetheless sea foam might fix the ticking

I just realized you're in Sterling. If you need a good shop, it's a bit of a drive but come see RevHard in Rock Island.

ya it's probably your alternator belt which is very easy to adjust and change as well. I would recommend changing it out. On my first dsm I bought it used with 110,000 miles and never changed the timing belt. It broke around 120,000 and cost me a pretty penny to fix. I would get on that if I were you.

i'd agree with the alternator theory. when a belt slips it tends to squeak, chirp, sqeaul, or whatever you want to call it. after slipping for a while the belt heats up due to the belt sliding across the pully surface causing a ton of friction which in turn causes the heat. once it's it heated up the belt tends to grab better and the noise goes away or becomes a lot quieter until the car is shut off and cooled and the whole obnoxious cycle starts again! poor tension or misalingment can cause a belt to do this. if it's poor tension you should fix it asap because i had this problem for a while and the constant slipping caused the belt to shred!!

I know you havent heard enough times, but change all the belts and also check the harmonic balancer, that can make noise also. :) Im thinking its the alt belts.

It has to be your alt belt. Those are notorious for squeaking. Check to make sure its not loose or worn out. And time to change that timing belt. Don't want it to snap on you:nono:
