My question is a bit different from those being posted. It seems everyone wants to know how to wire a cutoff switch for relocated purposes. My setup is stock, I'm running a rear battery as well. I just need to know how to setup a batt cutoff switch from my front batteries into the cockpit, I'm thinking arm rest. This is only because I dont drive my car everyday and I want the convenience of cutting off the power as I park it for the week without having to pop my hood and trunk and busting out a ratchet everytime. I want to do this with my rear battery as well, which is seated nicely on the hump behind the rear seats. I am by no means electric saavy and from what I understand, it's as simple as connecting the switch to the negative terminal. What I dont understand is the wiring realm to ultimately get the switches into my arm rest, by which I mean I have no clue of the wiring, guage, batt accessories/extra's I would possible need. Please help. Thanks.

Edit: Also, any recommended brands/types for this type of setup are much appreciated.

And why are you cutting power? You're making your poor ECU re-learn fuel trims every time you drive it. You'd have a smoother car if you left it alone. Most people that install a power cutout with a relocated battery do it for track regulations.
 
Grab a battery tender and it will maintain your batteries voltage. I have one produced by Yuasa. At twenty bucks its much cheaper and far easier than installing battery disconnects.

Yes, I.m running two batteries. I'm also running aem ecu so no problems with that. I dont drive it all the time so I want the ease of cutting the power from the arm rest, and not popping my hood and having to use tools to preserve the charge. I dont have relocTed batteries, I have two of them.

Can you elaborate on this a bit more? How/where does it connect? Can I run it into my arm rest? What store sells them so I can avoid an internet purchase?
 
There is an included pigtail which can be permanently wired into your harness with a quick connect style plug-in that will allow you to easily connect and disconnect the charger. Here is a link to the charger.

So if I understand this correctly, after doing a little reading on bls devices, this charger stays either connected to my battery via those teeth grips (just like connecting a normal car charger), or I can splice into my hot wire via the included pigtail, and ground it? Would I need to run two of those chargers for each battery or just one?

Here are a couple senario's for you, just so I can see which route I want to go with this:
1) If I want to drive the car sporadically, say, every 3-6 days, can I just leave the charger connected normally and not even think about it?
2) Going with option 1, do I literally leave the teeth grips connected to the pos and neg posts and drive like normal?
3) If I do the pigtail option, will I be: A: splicing into only the main pos wire and grounding anywhere? B: splicing into both pos and neg main wires? And C: using the disconnect option at that point for periods of long storage, because isn' t the point of the charger to maintain battery life at all times, despite storage regimine?
 
The pigtail can be wired in anyway you see fit. Splice it or crimp on an eyelet and place it on the positive and negative clamp. Im assuming you have the batteries wired in parallel since wiring them in series would bring your voltage up to 24v. Either way both the batteries should receive voltage. This charger will sense the amp load of the charge cycle and cycle on and off accordingly. It can literally remain energized for an infinite amount of time with zero ill effects. If you wanted to be super cool about it you could splice in enough wire to run your pigtail connector up to the grill and plug it up similiar to the diesel vehicles with their block warmer connectors. Simply tuck the connector away when your driving it.

Thanks a lot bro. This is a far better plan than the cutoff switch idea, will definitely be going this route. One last opinion, Im thinking of crimping on the eyelets to the pigtail side to preserve the terminal clamps, as opposed to vise versa, thoughts?
 
I believe the pigtail comes with eyelets already installed. I will look at the one I have installed on my cbr when I get home and report back.
 
Maverick, so I picked up the yuasa charger/maintainer. Question is, how does this thing stay charging my battery? I was under the impression the yuasa would be charged hy the batteries, thus keeping the batteries charged but I'm looking at the charger which looks like it has to be plugged in. How do yoh have yours connected to your car and are you plugging it in to an outside power source or are the batteries keeping the yuasa charged?
