I have all stage0 and stage1 mods except exhaust from the turbo back, fuel pump, and ic piping. I was just wondering what your local shops have charged you for a custom exhaust set up? I cant afford 500 + for a turbo back. I would like something with a resonator or two to keep noise levels down. Any of you guys have something out of the ordinary?

I'm guessing by "stage 0 and 1 mods" you're referring to the tech guide on this site. If you can't afford a $500 turbo back, you probably can't afford a shop. Shops are generally $60-$100 an hour just for labor, this doesn't include the parts.

What do you mean by "custom setup".

i mean like a 3" exhaust with a muffler, all stock location and routing, just bigger pipe and new muffler from the turbo back.

Yeah forget a custom exhaust. Chances are that will be more expensive. If they don't already have a design (they might- 2Gs are pretty common), they will have to design a system for you, fabricate it, install it, etc.

The link DSMnoob posted looks all right. I've never tried that product, so I don't have first hand experience. For the most part, exhaust setups are just piping. I've used some no name products in the past and they've worked out just fine.
I have a partially custom 2.5" exhaust on my N/T that I'm happy with. I had a friend to help put it together for me though. Saved a lot of dough versus going the normal route.

But if you don't have a friend and you have basic mechanical competence, you shouldn't have any trouble bolting up a new exhaust system.
Find a product that fits your budget, search for reviews and if you're still not satisfied, post a link and we'll all give our opinion. GL

As an end note: exhausts are expensive, so is the whole car hobby. We've got to pay to play my friend. Be patient and save money and you'll get there.

You could always start with a ebay cat back and get the downpipe later when you budget allows. You cant really do it the other way around, that may hurt performance. Ive seen them as low as $100 a piece on ebay. A pipe is a pipe, no sense paying more for the same thing.

Go to a Local Muffler shop in you area, buy a muffler you like or want.. PLEASE no cheap autozone ones, something nice and deep... magna flow or the likes.. and have them weld it up, and ask to inlarge the piping from the cat back... ive done this MANY MANY times and my old town and dude usually charges $150-$200 for the piping and work!! Its an easy hour job for them!

And A pipe isn't also just another pipe... you have steel, stainless steel, aluminized steel, ect.! different metals, some are for looks, some will last longer in wet.. salty weather!!
Stainless steel often looks better and can be polished (depending on the grade), Stainless steel is very resistant to corrosion, as for aluminized, isn't quite soe resistant to the weather!!

If you can't afford a $500 exhaust you need to give up the idea of modifying your car, period. It's expensive and time consuming.
