My cars running way to rich and I haven't got the time and parts to fully install my Maft yet.
It's got EVO 8 injectors 560cc stamped on them
And a wally 255 pump
Running a 20g 10psi
This is a project I picked up a few weeks back and just now got it up and running.
I've been keeping it in the garage mostly but I've taken it on a few easy test drives
Just to get it out .

Basically it runs and drives but feels like it will bogg down if you give it to much gas maybe 40% throttle.
I've been meaning to install a Maft I've got laying around to try and tune it but I don't have all the parts required.
Obviously its running like crap way to rich.
And the check engine light is on now (what could it be)
I've done some basic boost leak test and found + fixed injector seals biss screw and j-pipe leaks.
Other than that there's no more boost leaks.

And just putting it out there these mods were done by the previous owner.
Just need a little help with it.

Would putting in a set of 450cc's help I know the pump will kill my regulator soon so I might put it a stock pump on it as well, would that help any even if I leave the 20g set at 10-12psi
I'm not to familiar with a Maft yet so I thought maybe keeping it stock for now would be the way to go,until I get a decent tuning kit and datalogger.

I've looked up most of the other threads but they are asking a little bit of a different story so I thought I might ask- thanks

I will try to put together a afpr and install the Maft ASAP if possible I really don't Wana tear apart my fuel system and cause leaks if you know what I mean. Just need to find a way to stop it from running so rich for now.

I don't see a adjustable fuel pressure regulator in your mod list. Are you just running on the stock fpr? If so that wally will over power it and cause you to run super rich. If you're gonna run a 20g you really should have something to tune with.

CEL could be a ruined o2 sensor depending on how long the car has been run super rich. It can foul the sensor, specially if it's old and already getting "lazy"

Putting the 450's back in, or putting in a 2g maf with the evo injectors would be a quick, generic way to get it to run better most likely. Not perfect, or the right way, but better than it is now.

No there's no afpr yet as stated I've yet to install it along with a Maft
And as stated above yes its running a 20g but its been done by the previous owner,
What I was saying was would installing 450cc's back in would help since I've yet to get my 3"-2.5" reducers for my Maft set up. I plan on keeping the turbo and add on a afpr and the Maft to tune ASAP just waiting on my reducers to come in.

I just need a way to stop it from running rich at the moment.
That 2g Maft is a good idea I just remembered I had one laying around thanks for bringing that up:)

Sorry didn't see that at the bottom. Skimmed right over it. There's only so much you can do as stated above to make it better but it'll take some work to get it done right. PM if you need any help.

There's NO way of tuning a car without actually tuning it. You're running a big pump on a stock FPR with upgraded injectors...and you're wondering why it's rich and bogs down?

You've answered your own question dude. Put the 450s back in, and get an AFPR. If you've got a wideband, slap that MAFT in and get it dialed in otherwise.

:boring:

.....there's always a way to tune car on or off.
And "dude" please read and understand before posting unhelpful already said advice.

I've decided to keep the EVO 8s in there for now I hope my reducers come in soon.
I Wana try out this Maft set up to see how well it holds up.

Ok, well, it'll be rich until you install the MAFT.

The fuel pump will overrun the FPR, because the outlet is 7mm on the outside, but 1/8" on the inside. An AFPR is only required because it has a larger outlet and will not be overrun by the walbro. If you don't swap it out, it will be rich.

The injectors are pulsing at the rate of a 450cc unit, but are pushing out 560cc-style fuel, so unless you can ghetto-down the pulsewidth, it will be rich.

The MAFT is basic, but works to adjust the PW, so you can run a stock ecu with the 560s. Until you install it, it will be rich.

You know a lot about tuning, for a guy who doesn't know how to tune away his richness.

peas out.

It's not about not knowing, its about not been able.I still haven't installd a Maft so I'm not able to control it you sure talk a lot for "understanding" what is been said, ...almost sound like the person I got it off from...who knew so much about just "slapping" parts on...and couldn't even get the car started.

Thanks for the advice but that is not what I'm looking for

I'm confused as to what you want then. It sounds like it's rich, but you don't want it to be. It sounds like you have no way of tuning the car, outside of the MAFT, which you say you haven't installed yet.

Flat out: until you install the MAFT, you can't tune it.

If you know this, then why did you start the thread?

PS: I'm using this thread to bump my post count so I can start posting in the better forums.

Like we all said its running rich and like 255 will most likely kill my stock fpr
I'm asking for ways to improve like adding the 2g Maft and keeping the current set up to make it run better for the time been, this a build in process if you follow the link you will see a little of it,I'm updating as I go LOL.
I'm looking for small part recomendations like the 2g maf afpr etc I'm just busy at work and can't really think much to add on besides the gm Maft to tune but that's in the waiting to get here list.
Few other things like a wideband

The MAFT is not a very good tuning device IMO. The GM MAF can be quite a pain to dial in. Without some sort of datalogger you are pretty much tuning blindly with a known finicky device. Each GM MAF can be a good bit different from the next. This is even more difficult if the sensor is in blow-thru and you have the stock PCV setup since it can be greatly affected by moisture. (I've tuned a few)

You could always put the 2g MAS on there which basically compensates for 550cc inj. You will still have overrun issues until you put on the AFPR, but it should run better. Until you get a datalogger, I wouldn't be changing a whole lot on the setup. You can also "hack" the 2g MAS, but I don't recall what that does...I'm sure a quick search will bring up pertinent info.

You can also use an SAFC to tune your car with larger injectors. There isn't really many other choices without an EPROM ECU and a chip of some sort... There is always the Cadillac of tuning software which is ECMLink! Hands down best money spent!
