Base Idle set screw?

Nothing makes sense though. I would think turning the idle screw would ADD more air, making the idle higher.... Maybe his was loose. I believe mine is in there good. I will have to check. I may make my own video...

That may also be the idle speed controller motor (ISC). Is your idle bouncing between 1200 and 900? noce and steady, but drives just fine? If so, the the most likely culprit is the $80 ISC.

I've kinda had the same thing happen on mine. Mine still does it a little bit, but not much, most of my idle problems have been vaccum leaks though. Mine only does that when it's cold, but once it warms up it actually falls too low and tries to die when not moving.

Actually it idles between 1000-1500 and it drives like a pile of crap. The only time it is fine, is if the MAF is unplugged and I floor it, it just TAKES OFF. But other then that it won't idle right, won;t accelerate at all. Misses at all rpm's except idle rev's. As soon as the car gets load it runs like crap. This is a GST btw.

Sounds like you either have a boost/vacuum leak or your MAF is bad. Try doing a boost leak test and if that is good, check for loose, broken vacuum lines. You may also have a bad TPS.

I went through that idle surge.

I have checked and swapped ISC.

I redid my turbo piping.

I checked timing, it seems to be spot on.

When I move the cam sensor the idle surge, slows down or speeds up but never goes away.

Only time it goes away is if I unhook the wire that goes to the sensor by the throttle cable. Goes up to 2000 rpm.

Unhooking the MAF can make it surge, hooking in the MAF can make it surge or stabalize around 1200-1500.

Spark plugs also seem to be coming out PITCH black.

You need to reset the IAC first before adjusting the BISS.

But prior to all of this, check to see if your IAC is any good with the ohms reading across the plug terminals..

Look at these two links below for info.

Once you begin and go through these steps, the idle problem you're experiencing should settle down. I did mine through the tests and my idle RPM now sits squarely at 750rpm.

Good luck-DSM

I did test the ISC ohms were ok. All the coils had resistance.

One thing I'm concerned with. The connecter they call a ignition timing adjustment plug, I don't think is plugged into anything on my car??? from his pic it looks installed???

Plug it in if its not plugged in, idle problems are frustrating, But link helped also problems were with leaks, biss screw adjustment, ands a bad isc. I followed the link above and did everything and, and solved my idle issues.

yea but like I said it's not just idle, it's the whole driving range, car has no power. I mean I could floor it in 1st and go no were. I'm getting ready to do some tests so. I will update in a couple hours.

I havn't had a chance to work on it yet, but my service manual says I have to ground something I believe.

Yea I saw that previously. I will do that. But, I want to also SET ignition timing just to be safe. I read the tutorial on how to do it. I don't have a timing belt cover, so I can't see the timing marks, but I can see the cam gear marks. I'm confused on how to do it with the cam gear marks, because the video in the tutorial for setting the timing is not available anymore.

Anyways I'm going to wake my girl up, tell her to make me some sammichs, and then I'm off to cash HER check and get me a timing light and stuff ;). I will also post a video some time today with what my cars doing.

If I remember right, it was a combination of intake leaks everywhere around the throttle body, believe I got a rebuilt TB and fixed all the boost leaks and it went away. Before I got the TB I adjusted the timing so that it was more tolerable.
