I have a motor on the stand that I'm doing a little work on (BSE, HKS 272's, Adjustable Cam Gears) before dropping it into my '98 GS-T & was wondering if anyone had ever cut down the sprocket on the crank that the balance shaft belt rides on after doing an elimination of the balance shafts.

I could have sworn that I saw a thread with some pics of someone that had one it but, after a couple hours of searching, I can't find it...

I have done it on one other motor, but it started puking oil shortly after I got the car back on the road. I had to back-burner that car for a while to move into my new house & to finish other projects, so I wasn't able to determine if it was bad for the motor or not. It ran fine & showed no issues while I had it going.

Here's a pic:

I'm thinking that any reduction in rotating mass is a good thing, so even though it's only a small amount of weight removed, every little bit helps...

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

..kinda silly to worry about a couple of ounces of less weight on the crankshaft when you cut it down esp. when it's not doing any work and the diameter of it is so small so it wouldn't act like a flywheel or similar....
