I took my balance shaft idler pulley off to change the balance shaft belt. Only now I don't remember which way it goes back on. Does the part with the ridge go on the outside or inside?

Here are some pics I found, the first one has the ridge on the inside, and the second has the ridge on the outside. I would think the ridge would go on the outside to prevent the belt from slipping.

I think you're referring to the BS tensioner pulley. The lip goes on the outside (driver's side). The 2nd pic shows the correct orientation.

Yeah, I meant tensioner pulley. Thanks for the input.

I went ahead and put it on with the lip on the outside.

Just to be sure you might want to search or ask a 1g wiseman (like Steve) and post result here so we all know.
I say this because on the 2g's it's different depending on year:
Quote from VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions "NOTE that if you are replacing the balance belt tensioner pulley, there is a lip on this pulley - on 95s, the lip goes on the inside, towards the block. 97-up, possibly 96-up, have a different pulley with a smaller lip, their pulley installs with the lip on the outside."

make sure u put the tension going up and back not towards the front or the tensoinor will hit the tone ring bend it and crack the crank sensor just a heads up if your not already done

and to be off topic i always heard that the hyundai 2.0 was almost the same and the mitsubishi 2.0 but after seeing this im a beliver
