if anyone wants to throw in their 2 cents on this but would you guys recommend a BSE kit for $50 and completely eliminate the future break of the belt and causing my timing belt to snap and bend some valves? or pay $50 for the HKS BS kevlar reinforced belt that isnt gonna break in the lifetime that ill probably have the car? i just need opinions on the best way to spend $50 on solving this issue LOL.
BTW this is for a 6 bolt swap into my '95 TSi AWD

Heres the belt:
HKS FINE TUNE BALANCE BELT MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE TALON DSM:eBay Motors (item 170234921508 end time Jan-21-10 18:07:47 PST)

LOL they show the timing belt... i think they would both be good ideas, its just what you think is better for your motor. are you planning on breaking it down enought where you can do a proper b/s shaft elim kit? if i could do it all over again id have balance shafts LOL

If its for a 6bolt swap and the engine is outside of the car do the balance shaft elimination, it makes the car rev quicker and is very easy to do.

I rather keep the balance shaft on my car, but either of those would be good for you. Just search for pros and cons for both and do as you please :).

I vote the BSE as well. As you staated, there won't be any worries and it'll be easier to time the car. You also stated that the belt will last the "lifetime" which isnt' true either. Sure, kevlar is stronger, but I wouldn't risk keep it on and should still be changed each timing job. Once kevlar is soaked with oil, it's trash as well.

I went with a belt.. the gates blue belt to be specific. I really can't see a reason to do the BSE. Having the balance shaft in the car doesn't really make the timing job any more difficult, it keeps oil pressure at factory levels, and helps keep vibration to a minimum.

No if your thier don't waste your time do the bse it's well worth it you will not notices the vibrations and if don't right you will see better oil pressure and it's also one more thing you don't need to worry about on the bottom end.

It sure is noticeable if the car has harder mounts. If you have poly mounts, you can drill holes to soften it up some, I did. I prefer the BSE kit, because it is quicker to do the belts, and not worry about 2 more timing marks.

A new balance shaft belt, no matter how strong, will not keep the balance shaft bearings from failing. When a balance shaft bearing freezes up stronger belts just snap harder.

With a high mileage DSM the balance shafts need to be maintained or removed. Personally I replaced the BS bearings with new OE units with the stroker conversion because I also went to stiffer motor mounts.

it's not the bs that make it shake like that it the mounts trust me i may not post much but i've been in the car game along time i've had well over 10 dsm's. I fixing and sell then all day it's my life. the bs make a small mount of diffrent's now if your turning high rpm's it's a deffrent story so yeah

I'd go the BSE route because I like to simplify my engine as much as possible. Less timing marks to line up, less things to worry about going wrong, less resistance on my engine. All good things.

wow alot of responses.... haha thats probably worth a dollar or 2 with everyones 2 cents. Okay so to answer a few questions, the motor is out of the car, and here are my supporting mods:

right now im leaning towards the BSE kit. thanks a bunch guys

Right now to help me finish this 6 bolt swap i need:
HKS Timing belt
ARP head studs
DSMLINK v2/v3
Eprom ECU socketed + Keydiver chip

Things I have:
Evo3 Big 16g
550 Injectors
Original Burschur racing FMIC ($1,200 back in the day)
HKS SSQV II
GM MAFT Blow Thu Setup + GM LS1 MAF Sensor
3" Turbo back Magnaflow straight piping exhaust + Test Pipe ;]
3 bar 2.5" Reach Aluminum radiator
Complete head rebuild with revised BC springs and retainers
Injen intake with conical air filter

If you are daily driving the car I would leave them in. I pulled mine while the engine was still in the car because the bearings were going bad and had to destroy them on removal. Wish I would have just replaced the bearings. I didn't notice any quicker response and the vibration is very noticeable. The keys rattle all the time. Quite an inconvenience for little gain.

hmm... i dont have balance shafts but run oem mounts and i dont notice any vibrations what so ever.

that's cause you are on the soft oem's. get a set of poly's and you will feel it.

a little gain? most people take them out so if the bs belt breaks it dont take the main belt out and BOOM time for a new set of valves.

never drove a DSM with BS, eliminated mine when i rebuilt it and dont see any problems, only pros. i dont know how fast it revs with BS but id say without it revs really fast. and i dont notice any bad vibrations people talk about, and if you would like a smoother motor while sacrificing preformance then go for it. i did and would do it again. IMO

but it would help if someone could comment that drove with BS and without

^ forgot to mention, i have the polyurethane mounts...
