Balance Shaft Elim = Boost Creep?

Winnipeg,
I just successfully removed my balance shafts and replaced all the gaskets and seals on the timing belt side of the engine.

I just took it for my first drive since and I have noticed two things.

1. I seem to be getting serious boost creep now. My MBC is set to 15psi.. and and I'm going up to about 20-21 psi.

2. I am also having serious lag issues it seems with boost. The car doesn't seem to pull once it goes into boost, at least not until I get that boost spike up in the 20psi range.

One thing to note is that I have the down pipe off right now. Not sure if that would have anything to do with the above problems, but something to note anyways.

Any help/input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris.

If you have the downpipe off, you may be getting incorrect O2 readings, as the rear sensor will not be receiving any information.
Also, check your waste gate solenoid and make sure the waste gate moves freely when disconnected from the actuator.
These things seem completely disconnected from the balance shaft removal, but it may be from disconnecting other things to do the modification.

I thought the rear o2 sensor was strictly for emissions? I don't think it has any effect on how the engines runs.

The rear o2 sensor has nothing to do with the o2 readings, its only purpose is for the cat. Running with the downpipe off will decrease backpressure, making the turbo more prone to creep. That's why many people experience creep after putting on a freer flowing exhaust, or removing the cat. You may "feel" like the car is not accelerating the same from all the extra nose, it sounds dumb but it's something psychological, don't ask why :p

The turbo sounds like a jet when it spools down between shifts doesn't it? :)

Lol, it sure does. I'm throwing on the downpipe in about 20 minutes. See how she reacts to that.

Thanks for the info.
