I am still getting some pretty bad gas mileage.

I am only getting about 19.7 mpg with mostly city driving shifting at 4k.
I have already replaced my front O2 sensor and am looking to replace the fuel filter.

I have a 99gst with about 55k miles on it. Should my fuel filter already be bad?

What else should I check or change? I have NKG plugs and Accel wires are on the way.

Thanks,
Nathan

you drive around town in vacuum and get better gas mileage then a Honda

higher compression motors (honda) combust more efficiecntly meaning they use less gas, honda's are 2wd = less drivtrain loss better fuel econ, honda's weigh a lot less = better fuel econ...

check your tire pressure, and maybe bring it up a little. This
might hurt your launches but will help your gas mileage alot.

My wife's integra has a 1.8 and it gets about the same as my AWD.

do you have a large aftermarket wing? if so you might want to remove it to reduce drag..

OT: about honda's vs dsm fuel econ.. gearing and transmission also have a lot to do with it, as well as, how the car is driven and at what speeds and for how long at a time....

make sure your maintenance is up to date (plugs, plug wires, o2 sensors, etc) and then if that doesnt change anything, just stay off the throttle dude. my friend has a 16g in his car and he can get 38mpg, unless we get on the highway and mash it in 4th gear.... you can literally watch the gas needle go down.

My GSX gets about 15mpg. i think it's because of the all wheel drive factor... it gets that if i'm flying around everywhere or driving like a grandma so ... why not get on it a little. :D

hey guys i see your all getting really bad gas mileage overboost.com says it is because our o2 sensors wernt grounded properly heres the link

its about in the middle of the page later guys

OK, so what do you think? if we run "grounding" systems would we get better gas mileage? I mean, I've read about it but i'm still skepticle if it actually works.. I guess it could hurt to try...

Ground out the engine bay with heavier gauge cable and the exhaust system as well? what 8 or 10 Gauge all around? - I'm about to pull my 7-bolt for a 6 bolt cyclone... I gues i'll do it then. Worth a shot right? $20 grounding kits are on ebay all the time. meh?

i am also curious about this...

I Havent Even Tryed This Method Of Regrounding The O2 Im Changing My O2 Sensors First And If That Doesnt Help I Will Be Attempting The Ground Method

Filters, plugs, o2 sensors all good and unclogged. Regular maintenance. Stay off the pedal and don't boost. Tune the car to run lean. It's all about tuning and maintenance.

I was refering to my gst mainly georg michaels  , But with all jokes aside the difference in compression in a DSM(8) to a typical honda(9.1:0) is extremely small. I wrote that too early before I was able to be fully awake...otherwise I wouldnt have brought up a hairsplitting idea like I did.

a/t dsm's have lower gearing(3.9 final drive) when compared to a honda(usually 4.56 final drive for a 1.8 teg) meaning at 60 we are at a lower rpm then them = less gas consumed.

there are too many reasons to get bad mileage, as far as Ive said before 15mpg on a a/t awd is pretty decent (lower end of the decent scale but by no means bad). In my new a/t awd I avaerage 15-20mpg but I candrive with the needle well bellow the empty mark before the light comes on.

right on about the gearing but the 1.8 teg engine is smaller, also. So they just about cancel each other out there.

What is your timing averaging while cruising? Its possible you have phantom knock and that'll kill your gas mileage.

If your tune is proper get a 190deg thermostat.

If you had a 1g I'd suggest turning the ignition timing up.

OK I just got my 95 eclipse gst several weeks ago. I am getting around 25mpg highway and 20 mpg city. Is this low? If so what should I look into doing?

Sounds about right to me.

It all depends on how you drive your car, What youve said sounds normal. If you are on the gas and on boost all the time, then yeah your gas mileage is going to go way down.

damn, my n/t gets about 20 mpg, but since it is down, the v8 truck i am driving gets about 11  . Consider yourself lucky

LOL I wish I get 25/20, you're fine.

Hey, I have 97 eclipse gsx-57k miles-I have an intake, exhaust, apexi BOV, and I run 91or 92octane-whatever is at the station, and I right now get about 120 miles to the gallon, its an automatic-Do all the cars get this bad of mileage-I drive around the limit, of course punching it every once in a while-but is it the gas im using?-are they all like this? could something be wrong?-I also am told that my car smells bad when driving behind it-and the smoke is pretty dark-could I be burning oil-or is this normal-I am only running like 11 psi too-im just lost-Help please?! :dsm:

Any CELs? A bad O2 sensor would be a place to start.
I can drive the piss out of my 2.3 green turbo gsx and still get 19mpg
