i just bout a 90 awd... the kid got it towwed to my friends shop bu he put it on a regular tow truck not a flatbed... so the rear wheels where on the ground and the front were locked in... i knew about this when i bought the car for 900 bucks... but i wanted to know if it could be n e thing else... is it the tranny?... transfer case?... diff?... if anybody knows please e mail me @ [email protected]
thanks:talon:

same thing happened to my neighbor's awd van. your transfer case is done. get it fixed.

my plan was to buy a tranny... so i guess thats the best cause everything u all mentioned is in it

the xfer case and center dif are NOT in the tranny ... if it's the xfer case ... buy a xfer case, don't buy a tranny just because yu think it has "everything" you need because it doesn't. i fubared my tranny ... i replaced only the tranny ... my tranny did NOT come with a xfer case or any difs ....

Uh, you're right about the transfer case being separate from the tranny, but the center diff IS located inside the tranny.

C'mon guys, this is simple stuff that can be verified in any DSM manual.

The center and front differentials are IN the transmission. The transfer case is a separate, bolt on item and is not considered part of the transmission.

Two-wheel towing usually trashes the Viscous Coupling and/or the center differential. To trash the transfer case you'd have to lock it up from lack of oil or physically break it and towing it will do neither.
