So, I have a holset, and my head is off, what should I check for?

If you intend to feed it from the head, or even not, but just for the better oil pressure and distribution thru the head, check the link in post#23. There is disscusion about this oil port in the head, which OP/who is machinist/, claims that over time when head was milled a few times, it doesn't get enough oil. So after porting this opening, pressure is up/ no lifter tick, etc.

Yes, it kicks ass @25PSI....

Sometimes, I think how bad it is to be a TC, or Tranny in a DSM.
