Altitude still affects a turbo engine just like a N/A engine.

You right that the wastegate is mechanical and doesn't care what the atmospheric pressure is. When it sees 14 psi it opens if you are at sea level or MT. Everest.

However, your engine is a different story. It produces power in part based on the initial density of the air it first injests. Look at it from an extremist point of view. If the absolute outside air pressure was 5psia (vs. Standard Sea level 14.5psia) and your boost is set at 14.5psig (1 bar) your turbo is techanically spinning as fast as it would spin at sea level to make 22.5 psig.

The key to grasping what I just wrote is understanding the difference between psia (absolute pressure) psig (gauge pressure).

Trivia Question: How fast would your turbo have to spin to make 14psig if the inlet pressure was zero psia?

yea its annoying dude keeps pming me telling me about how hes faster then cobras.. get a life dude.. oh yea i bsed him and said i had a 2.3 in a awd, with a 100 stot and a gt35r he said whatever my car is faster your no match for my shudder box.. wtf man get real :spam: and notice he has aol.. u all know how alot of them aol kids are in the car chat room
