Actually i bought an OBX one and dude it &@#*ing SUCKED!
I took it out after 4 days Of Use Because I Was Going INSANE!

I can understand Where Your Coming From If You Dont LIke It...
Cause Mine On The Bottom Actually HIT the base that it was mounted to.

I'm *very* happy with my nuespeed short shifter, the polyureathane bushings it came with to replace the rubber ones made everything a lot more feel a lot more accurate.

Can anyone who has installed a short shifter explain to me how to do it. I have heard that you have to have the car pretty high in the air to do it, is this true? Do you have to drop the stock one out from underneath? Anyone with some good in depth instructions on how to do this would help a lot. Thanks!!:thumb:

Thanks alot i will give it a try tonight. I got a cheap one off ebay that is like no name but I think the same basics. I think it was around 65 dollars. I will let you know how it turns out.

Two bolts under the radio trim and two screws at the back on either side to remove the center console. Unscrew the shift knob and pop the top of the boot up (loose), disconnect the cig lighter and twist the cig tray light 1/4 turn to remove so that you'll be able to the remove the center console.

All finished. It looks and feels alot better. Felt like Christmas today, I installed shifter, front and rear strut bars, coilovers, cold air intake, and full chrome engine dress kit. I get my wheels tomorrow (Enkei CDR 17's) and Turbo Spoiler!!! Thanks for all of the help on the installation. I also have a underdrive pulley that I am not gonna attempt to install. I have heard many stories about this belt breaking or that messing up so I will leave that one for the shop. PEACE!!:thumb: :

i want to purchase a b and m short shifter and i was wondering if there were different models for the RS/GS/GST version and the GSX version? i have a GSX, does that matter at atll? i think someone told me once, the short shifter was dffernet, pelase help

hi guys. i just got my car and have already began some work to make it run more smoothly. im kinda lost on figuring out how to install the short shifter kit i ordered. can someone tell me how to remove everything to install it? i thought u could take off the shift boot but i cant. please reply. thanks. i have a 1995 rs.

You need to take out the whole center console to get to it. There are two srews just behind the seat on the center piece, then there is a srew and a pop in plug that hold on the side pieces near the pedals. You will pull out the cup holder and the ash tray and there should be two swrews there, and twist out the little light bulb. Disconnect the cigaret lighter and take off the shift knob and it should all come apart. Thats what I did on my car to get to the sifter. Good Luck

I attached a pic if it helps any.

I have the same problem with my OBX short throw shifter. I tore everything off and one of the bolts had come really loose. I tightened it up the best i could without the right tool and it fixed it for about 5 minutes then the bolt worked loose again.

if it is a nut going loose the go to the hardware store and get the same size nut but make sure it is a lock nut that way it wont go loose...might be hard to get it on but then your problem would go away.

also besides this problem...how much do you like your B&M...I'm thinking of getting one. Did it shorten the shift a lot and how did it feel before this problem...were the shifts tight (if that makes sense) and did it shift any easier...sometimes when my engine is cold it doesn't even want to go into gear...and when its off I cant seem to get it in 5th...it just wont go in...but I have no tranny problems...like nothing wrong with synchros and no grinding noises when I shift

I like my B&M short shifter a lot... it's set at 50% reduction, although i'm thinking about increasing it to 35%, it is hard to shift sometimes, but it's not too bad...

Where is SLO at???

I was looking to get a B&M shortshifter for my 98 talon TSI AWD to replace the stock one. I was just wondering if anyone out there has one and what they think of it, was it worth the money. Also if anyone knows of any good websites to buy one at. I was looking around and they seem to run about $175, is this right. Are there any other parts that need to be replaced when replacing the shifter (bolts, bushings, etc.) thanks people.

Well the kit comes with everythign you need and they typically run about 160-175$ new. I do not particularly like them at all. I think our trannies are notchy as is, and although with the b/m on there it is and can be a VERY short throw, its just makes it even harder to get into gear. I do not like the short shifter at all and think its a shitty investment

It is, but I had one(B&M) in my car 2g talon, and the shifter was very short compared to stock, but during the higher rpm's even the lower ones it was so hard to get into gear(I took it out and sold it ). Actaully it was a Bit$h to. I would just get the stabilizer kit like symborski shift kit which eliminates the play of the shifter. http://www.machv.com/symshifkit1.html But yeah short shifter suck IMO.:barf: :thumb:

Thanks Krazy, i got roughly the same response from some other people, so i just went to MachV and bought the stabilizer kit. This forum is a life saver

I disagree with all you naysayers on the B&M. Maybe you guys should tried to adjust your linkage once you got it in. I have mine set at 50% and it shifts smooth as butter. I have also the RRE bushings in. That made it tighter. I know a few other guys who have it and it shifts the same for them.
