so. i put the axle in, and it got stuck in the transmission, then i hit it in farther and it stops. I cant get the axle in any farther and i cant get it back out. I was hitting it with a sledge hammer. I have an lsd, i could throw in it, if i took the transmission apart to get the axle out. im not sure what i should do. i know the axle is rusty and thats probably why it had a hard time going in. What are your suggestions of what i should do?

First of all you should never hit an axle with a sledgehammer to get it in or out. To help getting it out use a prybar. I wouldn't recommend putting in a rusty axle, but otherwise lube up that thing before putting it in. You'll have to push it a bit to get it past the C clip inside the trans. Just don't use a hammer.

I got a napa axle and it was a complete pain in the ass to get past the clip. Wood block with a mallet is about the only thing you can use with an axle to try to get it in there.
Tip #1, line up the clip on the axle so the open part is facing down, this should keep an even outside diameter to help get the axle in.

thanks for the replies. I used a prybar, i broke the prybar trying to get the axle out. LOL. Im going to try some more tricks tomorrow. i bought a better prybar but it didnt help. i hate messing with this stuff. Do i have to pull the transmission if i want to take the differential out while the motor is in the car? I have taken transmission apart for these cars, so i can take it apart and put it together correctly.

i hit the axle in with a sledge hammer and it went it. thanks.
