Hey,
Inspired by a fellow DSMers incident, I decided to go check on my own suspension parts. Lo and behold some messed up stuff. I have a ripped axle boot and a ripped lower ball join boot. My questions are as follows:

How do you remove this mount so I can put it on my new axle?

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b39/thelmasofast/IMG_2874.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Here's the lower ball joint (the one that is the curved arm, not the straight one): Do I replace the entire thing, or should I press them out? Where can I get a complete lower arm and how much is it?

lastly,
my flywheel is definitely all chewed up. Brian at dogbox told me it could be a bad starter or ?plate?. Any opinions?

thanks guys.

mitsubishiparts.com has the lower compression control arm for $179. I don't know of anyone that has found a way to replace the ball joint but I believe some have replaced the boot.

There is a bearing, it is most likely a press fit, inner race on shaft, outer race pressed into cast mount.

It looks like a challenge, you may want to measure the bearing and replace it while you have it apart.

Also, your starter doesn't appear to be fully engaging, maybe the starter solenoid is gunked up or just not working correctly.

.
The driveshaft pry's off of the end of the intermediate shaft, the same way it pops off the transmission side.

I don't have to part infront of me but if I recall correctly you have to "knock" the cup part off.

BTW sometimes you can just rebuild the CV joint if your's is poping. If not just toss a new boot on it with some grease.

No big deal, thanks for the help guys. I ended up ordering a new ABS axle from autozone and it required me to reuse the half shaft anyway. So I just seperated it from the CV joint and all is good. Wret also helped me out with a newer lower control arm, so that is also on the car now. As for that chewed up flywheel, I'm going to tighten down the tranny and take a look at the starter and see what's going on.

i am in the same situation with my control arms. how do you go about just replacing the boot? and where might i find boots for sale?

When looking under the car, find the two 17mm bolts that hold on the lower control arm to the frame and the lateral arm (straight arm) to the frame. If you remove these 4 bolts, you should easily be able to swing the entire assembly out enough to pop the axle out. Ever since I posted this thread, that little trick made things a hell of a lot easier, given that your axle's didn't rust weld themselves to the hub. JNZ has the boot as a seperate unit to buy, so I would just call and have them order you one.

Go to ebay and type in eclipse control arms. I bought the 6 piece set for the front end and have had absolutely no issues at all. The whole set cost me arround $300 shipped to my door. Easy installation for the whole thing too. They also sell the sets broke up. I think the curved arms go for bout $60-$70 shipped.
