Awds in the winter??

Well its offical i'm back to pimping it in the buick. The talon is on the side of the house all covered up till spring / summer.

Now the real fun begins get the engine re ringed this winter and get to save up for all my mods i plan on doin this summer

Who else is putting there DSM away for the winter? or have you already?

yeah my cars garaged for the winter... but I'm still ganan take it out once and a while... and i need to finish my maintenance work and transfercase problem.

I work in the parts department of a Dodge/Mitsu dealer ...so ill have what i need to keep it in tip top order intill spring.

Hell, the little pansy version of "winter" we get out here is what makes AWD worth putting up with. I can even go 40 minutes east and play in the snow.
Then run home and hide from it.

hey guys i need to know how good will my 95 awd talon drive in the winter i will have stock rims and tires back on it but its also frontmount intercooled, ill raise it up of course but will it be ok... also i have a big 16g evo III manifold maf translator, 255 fuel pump 680 cc injectors??? i bought the thing did the mods now i cant afford a beater???? please give me some feedback!!!!!!!!! thanks

like driving on wet pavement they get around great man. Is that what you wanted to know? Just dont get too crazy and over confident and run it into a pole or something

It'll handle much better than any beater you'd have picked up with that money. Just make sure it's well waxed to keep salt out of it.

Don't run your summer/sports tires in the winter. grab some cheap all season tires and you'll be all set.

P.S. After this winter you will never want to drive in the snow without awd.

Nope, it will just stay cold (dont forget your pushing air that is 200+ degrees in it). The colder the fmic, the denser the air, which means more power for you!

I don't think your front mount will "freeze up"...whatever that means. It only runs air. Winter = cooler air so it should be even better. (unless of course you're doing H2O injection at the intercooler or something...

You might think about sticking some mesh or something in front of it to keep it safe.

with the front mount just make sure it is not clogged or packed full of ice.

do spot checks through the winter.

most probably you will be OK.

Though awd has considerable handling in undesirable weather, you can still spin out or lose traction. Get good snow tires and slow down.

Also know that you only keep traction while power is being put to the ground, so apply a LIGHT amount of throttle through turns.

Keep those in mind and you'll be set.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but my GSX handles really weirdly on packed snow and ice. It seems to wiggle, like all the wheels are gripping on and off. I don't know if it's the LSD or what, but trying to drive with the steering wheel fixed in one spot like you would normally feels like the car's going to slide off the road. Tires and alignment are fine in this case too. It's just a weird feeling that only occurs on some road conditions, but other than that, the traction and power are great.
