I have been wondering about something for while. For you guys that have had a Fwd turbo and a Awd turbo. Did you notice that the awd makes more noise than the fwd. When I decelerate, I can hear motor noise, like a hmmmmmmmm kind of noise. I dont know whether its just the extra drive shaft of the awd, or if its just may be because it is stock exhaust. For you guys that AWD, do you notice this sound at all?

Well you do have a freakin drive shaft and all of this extra crap haha

Well Ive owned both and yes I noticed a difference :D

Theres just alot more moving parts.

I see. Precisely what I was thinking, more things that move. Thats what I was looking for. I just had to know if other people if the noticed a differecne. And to reassure myself that I'm not crazy ;)

Are you running an auto or a manual? Either way, if you're hearing what I'm imagining (a whine almost) you should check fluid levels in the trans and tcase.

Huh, I don't notice any extra noise from my AWD (auto or manual), but an auto tranny going out can whine like that on deceleration..

Fluids check out. Its not a whining noise. Transmission has been rebuilt. Its fine. 5 speed. It doesnt sound like something is wrong. I'm just thinking its just everything else moving

Just as a precaution get under there and check your carrier bearings and driveshaft joints, takes 2 minutes and gives you some piece of mind. Maybe I just didn't notice the difference..

I've had 2 FWDs and 2 AWDs, but it's been a long time since I had the FWDs. When I got my AWDs I didn't notice anything but I haven't driven anything FWD in years, strictly an RWD/4/AWD kind of guy.

My AWD is kinda loud. I plan on putting in carper padding and some dyno mat in my car. I like how new cars have a very quiet cabin. I don't mind mine much but if I could tone it down some I would be very happy.

I know that I don't have transfer case whine. All my noise is caused by my exhaust and road noise.

OP do you think it is just road noise or something mechanical?

I think that it is just that. My stock exhaust (right down to the heat shields) Cat delete. That and just the road noise of an awd. There is NO mechanical problem at all.. Its just all driving noise. I was just trying to see if it is just my awd or if other people have the same (for the lack of a better term) problem

I have been trying to figure out what I can do to dampen the noise from my car. So far what I was thinking was that carper padding and dyno mat. That was as far as I got untill I started asking a few questions when I found this. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/appearance-interior-exterior/386579-here-we-go-again.html
He put the pad in and suggested some other things for me. I PMed him earlier today to see if he got it back on the road and what kind of diffenence it made inside the car. I have't recieved an answer yet.

Hopefully I can get him to update that thread so I can see how everything worked out for him.
I really want to dampen the noise. I even thought about adding another muffler. Buschur racing did it in one of thier cars. One of my buddies suggested I put great stuff in the quarter panels of my car! WHAT! NO.
I'll find something that works that isn't ghetto.
