So I just got my 91 talon back together. Its been apart for about 3 months for an AWD conversion (it started off life as a fwd n/t automatic). I finally drove it last night, and it just didn't feel right. The car has been alligned, all the measurments are within spec. It has all the same size tires on it, the center differential is not broken, and it has the upper torrington bearing upgrade, all the u-joints and carrier bearings seem good.
My first question, how tight is the viscous coupler? When I was installing the transmission I turned the t-case shaft to turn the input shaft so it would engage in the clutch, and it turned the motor over. I was under the assumption that it should be looser than that.
Second question, How much play rotational play is normal in the rear diff? mine has about 10*-15* on the driveshaft. Has anyone ever rebuilt the carrier? I have a 4bolt if it matters.
Third question, is a whine from the tranny normal? its almost like a straight cut gear whine. I had the tranny apart, it all looked good, so I assume its normal or coming from the T-Case. Also my car has no interior in it currenty, so it may be a bit pronounced.
Fourth Question, I left my FWD steering knuckles on, becuase I heard it helps with bump steer, is there any truth to this. My car has all the AWD front suspension components, except the knuckles.
Fifth Question, Before I drove the car it was impossible to push, I have a slight feeling it may have been the rear calipers, and when I drove it, it felt like somthing was dragging. Any ideas
