Two questions about AWD system

It would be awesome to see one of our dsm put into a head to head competition about awd systems. I think it would have been a awesome match between a 1g and Celica gt4. Audi pretty much owner rally racing in that era with their Quattro, until mitsu came on the scene. But I'm not very familiar with Quattro and what supposedly made them so great

The Audi systems are a longitudinal setup, basically a RWD drivetrain that has a transfer case to the front wheels. The balance is better and it allows for a more traditional power delivery. Our horizontal setup is a FWD platform with a transfer case haphazardly attached with a third shaft that makes all of the gears tiny and everything compact and squished in there. Weight distribution is pretty crappy from a performance standpoint and our pigs understeer like mad until a lot of carefully planned suspension work and chassis stiffening takes place. The gears explode and strip above 500ft/lbs making all of us stroker guys have to switch to a damn slushbox just to enjoy our fast cars LOL.
Admittedly I don't know that much about the inner workings of the Audi's of old so their actual gearbox may be weak in other areas as well, but from a layout standpoint the drivetrain is superior. That said, Audis are the 100% highest failing and most expensive to fix cars on the road and I would never own one outside of the warranty period. The newer ones are much better but anything 2005 and below you couldn't pay me to own LOL thats saying something from a DSM owner our cars have a bad rap for being unreliable but those German sausages suck!!!

I love the Lambo winter beater idea! I went to a "supercar fantasy" track experience thing my GF got me for my Bday and had the choice between an F430 Ferrari and a Gallardo. Had every intention of driving the Ferrari until we got there and it was pouring rain - switched to the Lambo right quick! Didn't even notice the rain until the back end snuck out a little bit around a tight S curve but DAMN can that sucker move. Got her to 90 in 2nd gear in the wet on the back straight in about 4.5 seconds just before that from a dead stop LOL. IDK if even snow could slow it down!

Fullthrottle good post! I think the only Audi I would ever consider owning would be a older twin turbo v6 s4. But I didn't know how their drivetrsin was laid out. Yeah I'm with you on the dsm weight distribution it's terrible, just look how far forward it all sits in front of the wheels, who thought that up:|
