what is the best way to launch an awd car i only ask because i don't want to break any thing on my car. i am used to fwd cars so trying to launch my awd gsx is tricky.

Launching an awd car and not breaking anything just do not go together. My best advice to you is if you cant replace the trans with a built one, dont launch it. Launching will break some part of a trans, sure it may not happen the first time, but when you least expect it...broken. Ok on that note, a safer way is to slip the clutch. Slipping the clutch at around 4500-5000rpms, thats around the ideal launch spot...of course it depends on your tune and your mods. Do not simply dump the clutch, it just wont work like FWD. When you slip the clutch, when you feel it grab, floor it. That is what got me the best results in my evo. Hope that helps.

i agree, just let the car cool off after you make a pass. i always launch at 5000 rpm. also baby the tranny dont slam the gears in, before you launch put it in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, (with the clutch in) so the syncros line up.

I actually slip/dump the clutch for a good launch. Let it slip and once the car starts moving, let it go and floor it. I have yet to break parts this way and thats with a stock rebuild tranny and a 2600 clutch. Now, if you just sidestep it, you could break parts, but not likely with a stock clutch. On a side note, I have a stutterbox and launch at no less than 5k and no more than 6k. It all depends on track conditions.

As far as shifting, I slam gears but I also have nlts built into the ecu. Again, I have never broken any parts from this. Im not saying it isnt possible, but I havent had any issues.

For those curious, here is a video of my last trip to the dragstrip. I was actually being very easy from the launch but the track was very slick and even a 5k slipped clutch launch roasted the tires. My best 60' this night was a 1.99 but I have gotten as good as 1.66 60' using this same technique.

I agree, you don't wont to dump the clutch, because it can harm driveline parts. With my mostly stock 91 TSi AWD I launch at around 4000-4500, because it has a weak transmission, but it depends on the condition of your specific driveline.

i'd start around 4k or so and work your way up until you find the sweetspot that your car likes :)

I dump mine at 6000 RPM, the thing just launches out of the hole. Just becareful, don't break anything LOL.
