Try it and find out :D. Um really its unlimited on what could go wrong, slip it a little and you should be fine. :thumb:

Well, the bad news is, the only way to know if something is gonna break, is to break it. And if something is gonna go, it will be the tranny for sure. A friend of mine has a 98 gsx with about 97xxx miles, and his tranny just blew. So unless you feel like replacing a tranny (which is not fun by the way) then make sure to launch below 6 grand....and be sure to give it some slip. But hey, why have a gsx if your not gonna launch it right?:sneaky:

Only one way to find out!

My car's got 195k on it and I pull 1.7 short times with it..

Go for it - these cars were invented for AWD OMG I CAN'T BREATHE launches :D

LOL i wish i could just launch it, but im a poor college student. maybe when some funds come up, ill try it out. so no launchign above 6k and slip it alittle. :p

so the tranny would go before the awd system?

Well, I never launch above 6K anyway.. It doesn't work well from my personal findings.. Try about 4800-5200.. Slip a little, once you get moving drop it harder.

And what do you mean by "so the tranny would go before the awd system?"?? The tranny IS the AWD system!

Most likely things that COULD go wrong are the transfer case, or the trans..

But seriously - I did ten 12 second passes with a trans that had 180k on it and was 15 years old. It was fine. Before that I did countless launches on my 95 AWD with 140k on the trans with no adverse effects.. Just don't dump the clutch and you'll be fine.

DO EET

sorry. im a newbie thus the question of tranny/awd system, but hey thats what this forum is for :p

all the replies have been positive. anyone launch their car and have something break?

^ yes.

The first day I launched my car I had 4 previous trys and failed horribly with bogging out and what not. On the 5th try I got one, no bog, and I litteraly was screaming "HooooLLY sh*t" through first into second. Probably one of the greatest adreneline rushes I've ever had.
Just recently I had another one that gave me the same feelign all over. YOU WILL know when you get a good one.:D

Yeah - when you get butterflies in your stomach like a drop on a roller coaster - you'll know you did it right :)
