high mileage 2g

I've looked at a few 1gs and have struck out, all have some issue. Onto a 96 talon tsi, it has 205k on it. Seller claims no burning of oil and runs great. Newer trans, not modded except for a recent exhuast. I searched and it appears 200k is ok. Is it possible for a 200k motor to be this good?

Yes its possible i had a 95 awd with 214000 on it and ran just tenth slower than my friends 95 awd with 85000(both stock). Just do a compression chsck to make sure it has good copression on all cylinders.

My 2g turbo has 189k on her; has some stumbling 2nd gear due to bad axles but, other then that, she runs great! Other then the oil leaks; do a COMPRESSION CHECK before you buy it.

TELL THE SELLER, "I NEED TO DO A COMPRESSION CHECK BEFORE I PURCHASE THE CAR; IF YOU DON'T COMPLY THEN GOOD LUCK SELLING THE CAR TO SOMEONE ELSE."

That tells a lot about the seller if he or she is "hiding" anything.

Good luck man! I say you wait a bit longer because when I rush things, I'll find other deals that would save me cash and time fixing whatever is wrong with the car.

Yup that was a solid car, amazing how far a little simple maintenance can go. Just find out when the timing components were last replaced and get any other maintenance records you can. A compression test is also a great idea.

Thanks guys. Will be looking at it tomorrow. Bringing my compression guage and plug socket. He is a easy going guy. He noticed the water pump weaping a few weeks ago so he just changed that and the belts.
