Autometer LED bulb replacement... PICS!

God dammit, thers a lot of sanding to be done for gettin this thing in...btw i got da shavings on the numbers, and i got no clue how to get it out??? how shud i go about this...dont feel confident to open it all open...

Yeah there is a good amount to file. What did you use to make the hole bigger? I shouldve mentioned this before. But this is what I did with the second gauge to keep the shavings out of the face. I just held it upside down the whole time I was shaving. Shaking it to get the shavings out every once in a while. But its too late now since you already did it. But I dont know how to get the gauge apart . There arent that many shavings in the one gauge of mine that did get them in it. So Im not even gonna bother with tearing it apart. I take it you got the 9 LEDs' as well?

YES i did.. and they turned out Perfect IMO. However i do not have a scanner so no pics . They fit right on the old socket and i recieved them 3 days ago from superbrightleds.com in less than 48hrs from ordering. great buy IMO. special thanks to ZenkaiRacerDsM.

Just an FYI, I bought the 6 LED bulbs, and I have a fitment problem.
I have the Mechanical Autometer Ultralite Vac/Boost gauge.
I fit the light into the socket, bam, that fit perfect, then I installed the light
socket into the gauge, and problems......
Apparently the 6 LED bulbs are too tall and hit the gauge armature inside the
gauge when the light socket is fully seated.
The needle binds up and the gauge doesn't work.
I'll have to get back to you guys on this, I just installed the bulbs before I left for work this morning.
Perhaps I may find a fix.....

maybe it has to do w/ the ultralite series as opposed to my phantom series guages I'm not doubting you, i'm just wondering how the two guages are different. I put my 6 bulb LEDs in a boost/vac guage as well so i'm stumped. I'm going to take pics and see if i can use a buddys scanner or a school scanner to give you all a glimpse.

ok....so i'm a little bit confused here on the led part...is 6 6 small leds and 9, well 9 small leds... because i'm very confused on the led part of this...i was looking at the wedge bulbs and it looks like they only have 1 led? ...does any one have a part # for me

they also have #74 instrument panel LEDs. Osram Sylvania says my 99 gst takes #74s so I assume those #74 LEDs would fit fine also.

While we are on the topic of using LED's, has anyone managed to find a #74 LED replacement that works with the HVAC without modifing it? I have managed to find #74 blue bulbs which arent bright enough(looks dimmer than a blue bulb in an Autometer gauge like his first pic).

I did it to my HVAC panel. Only used one and got it from superbrightleds.com It's real even I think I got 8000mcd with a viewing angle of 45 degrees. I will take pics when I get the chance but right now I am trying to figure out whether or not I should just give in and buy Import Iintelligence Intelliglow needles or not

What a trip.... your gauge is virtually the same except for their exterior.
I will take a look at it again this weekend and get some pics thru the bulb mounting hole
so I can show you what the bulb is interferring with.

Strm Trpr: couldnt you just shave off the ends of the LED's to give it the clearance it needs? just a thought....

I haven't really examined the situation yet, I just noticed that the LED's come
into contact with the armature of the gauge.
Really, you can shave the LED's, I'll have to look at that, but I think for now,
I'll modify the light socket with a shim and possibly cut away some of the
socket to accommodate the shims..... Just a thought....
Hopefully I'll have a fix by the end of the weekend.

ive gotten my gauges changed from the stock black/orange to the reverse indiglow blue but the part that lights up the odometer is still orange. i was wondering if anyone knew the bulb number, whether it was a 74 or a 194 or something else. thanks a lot

I was wondering if somone sould post a pic of a guage with one of those six led clusters in it. I put one of my extra 5mm blue leds of in the back of my guage last night and it looks like I will have to get something that has a little more output than 4000mcd

I'll take a picture tonight when I get home.
You can barely see the blue peaking around the face in daylight, and I stress barely.
But at night, man what a difference.
They're not quite as bright as the 9 LED cluster shown above, but I didn't want shavings in my gauge so I opted for the 6 LED Cluster which fit very well.
The only problem I found was the bulb cluster interfered with the boost gauge needle mechanism, so I can only put the light socket in, but not turn it to lock it. Works fine though.

Thanks, I am trying to decide if I want to put one of those 9 led clusters, 6 led clusters, or just make a custom kind of thing with all the 5mm leds that I have laying around.
