Ok people. For those of you with Autometer Phantom gauges. The gauges original bulb it comes with just isnt bright enough and doesnt look super tight cool and night right!? Thats exactly what I thoughtm, and I didnt want to spend 3 times the amount for a cobalt or c2. So I read up about getting LED bulbs to replace the original bulb. And in a post I came across superbrightleds.com. I ordered the 9 LED 194 wedge type bulbs in blue. I measured the hole on the back of the gauge before hand. I knew the 9 LED wasnt going to fit. But they were all out of the 6 LED's and I didnt want to wait :p . Anyways Here is a good comparison pic. The top gauge is obviously the LED while the bottom is the stock bulb with a blue condom on it.

Heres a better pic that I just took now that its dark. Haha you can hardly see the weaksauce regular bulb in the lower gauge. I used a file to make the hole in the back bigger for the 9 LED bulbs to fit. Problem is now the plastic shavings are on the face of the gauge. You can kind of see them in the pics. Anyone know how to get the front glass off the gauge?

looks good man! how does it look at night in the dark? is it easy to read? you should get a pic of it really dark! :thumb:

edit: haha well you beat me to it! right afte i posted i saw that pic and was like whoa i guess i missed that one! still looks great at night! :thumb:

That is sic man! I have my phantom gauges coming in the mail right now and i cant wait to drill into them! Is there anything in particular I should know before I do this? I am thinking about using a red led. would this match stock dash alright? Please give us more info! -Matt

Well if you get the 6 LED it should fit without any modification. But probably isnt as bright. I filed mine just so it was almost too small for the bulb to fit. Then I wedged it in. Also try not to let too many shavings get into the gauge. Here is the link to the automotive bulbs http://www.superbrightleds.com/1157.htm I got the "921 Type LED bulbs replaces 194/168 wedge base car bulbs". It plugs right into the autometer bulb socket. And in reply to the red LED. I think its a more solid red compared the stock gauges almost amber appearance. But still would look good! Also remember these bulbs are polarized so if you plug them in and they dont work just flip them around :thumb:

Sweet, looks great for sure, they have alot of LEDs on that page too..not to jack your thread, but wouldn't the gauge cluster LEDs on there work for us too?

Looks good, it's just too bright for me.

Good job :thumb:

what bulbs go behind 1g gauges(stock), i got my HVAC to fade from blue to green with LEDs (looks bad ass, i'll post pics later) but i want my gauges to fade from blue to green.

like the tach blue, shyt in the middle kinda aqua, and the spedo green.

only if you sanded off the amber film on the back of our stock gauge cluster.

ok, i've wanted to make the guages on my GSX a different color for a while now...can anyone tell me exactly how to go about this???

to ZenkaiRacerDsm: Thank you, you are now a god for figuring this out :thumb: i wrote a thread about this a few weeks ago and thought i'd probably never see the end result. :)

awesome i wonder how this looks on the ultra-lites

This is correct, and if you do this you never get even light distribution. In addition, LEDs have a more focused beam compared to the more spread out beam of regular bulbs. All this will make the lighting in the gauge cluster very spotty and it will look like ass. If you want your gauge cluster to light up a different color, consider some reverse indiglows.

Those LEDs in the Autometer gauges looks awesome by the way, good find.

Mad Props to ZenkaiRacerDsM :thumb: :thumb:
That's a killer find on the Superbrightleds....
That blue condom thing on the A/M gauges suck....

I just ordered the 6 LED Bulb in blue for my A/M Ultralites....
I will post up a night shot in the near future....

Thanks for the coments :) I knew there were questions about this before so I knew posting this would answer them. As far as the LED's that say theyre made for the guage cluster. I dont think those would work for the autometer gauges. And even if they did it looks like theyre only 1 LED and wouldnt be too bright. As for using those in the stock gauge cluster. It looks like it should work. Most of these bulbs already have the resistors they need in the bulb housing so it would be plug and play. Ill bet it would look pretty good with LED's in place of all the bulbs in the stock cluster with the film on the back of the faces removed. Maybe Ill try it if I get my hands on another cluster. :thumb:
