ok so im helping my friend tune his new 1g. he bought a 1g shell with an auto trans to replace his the 5 speed 1g he crashed. the engine and turbo set up from the 5 speed has been swapped into the new shell with the auto trans.

the car now has a 16g turbo with a 2g maf, aeromotive a1000 pump with 750 cc injectors, tuning with dsmlink 2.5, currently at 17 psi. the car also has a b&m shifter which was installed in the shell with the auto trans when he picked it up, to my understanding it has been installed to replace the tcu completely, it has to be manually shifted through its 4 gears at all times, there is no "drive" that shifts on its own. i have no experience tuning with an automatic trans, and minimal experience with the a1000 pump.

im having trouble getting a good balance between a good idle and smooth a/f while cruising in closed loop, and a good open loop wot tune. also at wot in having trouble getting a good balance between the a/f ratio im aiming at and a knock count low enough to keep the timing from being retarded. as i close in into the 11 to 1 range im aiming at, i see knock after the turbo spoils, especially after shifts. and when i start adding fuel to eliminate the knock, i drop farther and farther into the 10 to 1 range.

to get a smooth idle, im at -15% on the 750s, this seems very wrong from my experience so i first looked at the hanes manual and on the net to find an auto should have considerable higher base fuel pressure then a 5 speed. i started at 41 psi which was the setting i had on the AFPR when the engine was in the 5 speed shell, the manual says base should be more like 46 psi for an automatic.
so my first question is how high should i set the fuel pressure to start tuning with this auto set up with the a1000? 50 psi?

is there anything special i should know to tune for minimal knock with an auto trans that does not lose boost when changing gears?

it seems like all i did today, was compensate for the low base fuel pressure to get a smooth closed loop setting for idle and cruising, and make it slightly rich with little to no knock at wot, but the power isnt there like it should be. i know i need to considerably bump up the fuel pressure and re-tune it, but some input from some people here with experience tuning with an auto trans with a fuel set up like this would help me out alot.

because the shifter set up was already installed with the auto trans in the shell when he bought it. it might be something we would look into down the line, especially if we cant get the current set up working right, as it stands 4th gear will not engage, :: points to my other thread in drivetrain:.

although im not sure if thats even an option, cause it seems like the vast majority of the auto trans stock shifter system has been removed to run this set up. there is no "drive" to let the trans automatically shift like a stock auto trans with this set up like the roadsurge unit says is possible, you change gears manually or they never change.

really just trying to get it running good so we can drive it without fear of damaging the engine, then we can get back to finishing my 92 awd.

Have you considered posting a log?
I have a lot of questions that could be answered with a good idle and pull log.
