i have had some problem with my 97 GST lately....my car has been in the shop 3 times already b/c of my car keeps going into limp mode b/c come to find out my car has a Galant wiring harness and a tranny computer...well....the shop rewired it a couple of times..and it works for about a day and then the next day it does (of course)...but now the shop thinks it might be the gear selector itself. is it possible that the gear slector itself can be the problem...the day after i got it back from the shop..i went out to my car and then i shifted the car normally into drive...and the car went into limp mode again....need some help or advice. thanx guys

I don't see how the gear selector(i assume you mean the shifter) could be throwing it into limp mode...I know the galant's transmission is different then the tel's. and i'd imagine the computer would be different too. i have no idea, what the differences are in the computers or what could be "rewired" as the shop claims they did, but they obviously didn't fix it and need to. I'd get a tel TCU.

well see thats the thing..the car worked with the wiring harness flawlessly...thats what i dont get.....but...(this is a new idea of mine) could the battery have anything to do with this also? or no?

sorry to post again..but i was just thinking...where could i get the correct wiring harness and computer for my 2g? and is it hard to put it?

I've had pleanty of bad batteries.. Never been in limp mode. When and how long did it work flawlessly?
Okay, so how do you know you have a galant's tcu and wirring harness. Did the smart mechanic who's done such a great job at fixing your car say that? Can you take a look at the tcu and ecu under your center console and get the codes off the cases. The 1994 2.4l Galant was the only galant, to have the same transmission as you, F4A33-1. I'm not saying they're identical, but its possible the TCU could work on a tel.
So first verify what tcu you have. You can call the dealership to cross refrence, or post on here. If it turns out its a non-compatible galant, you could easily pick one up at a junkyard, or on ebay, or you can get reemed and go through the dealership..
One more thing you can try is to read the codes off the tcu.

good luck!
