Hey just want to see if anyone one else with an auto tranny has had this problem. It's on my dad's 97 gst automatic. It started having a slight delay inputing the gears after it would be put in to D. But the car still ran. Later that day after a small trip on the freeway, he exited on the off ramp and came to a stop. This is when the real problem began. In Drive the transmission would free rev like if it was in neutral. He was only able to move a few blocks before the he could not move it. So right now in any gear it is as if it was in neutral. Although after he turned the car off and on again he would be able to move a block or so before the same problem occurred again. I've searched for possible solutions, but the transmission doesn't make any awkward noises. Thanks in advance.

drop the trans pan, there is two magnets i believe in the bottom. This will let you know if there is any debris and wear inside. It sounds like something is not allowing it to select the correct gear or transmit power to the wheels. Maybe torque converter, too

Ok we'll probably do that tomorrow, also he just told me that he put some sort of additive into the transmission to prolong the life. The car had no problems prior to that. Do you have any idea if that could cause a malfunction like this?

I am also having this problem. I talked to a mechanic of mine and he told me its most likely the planetary gear. Which is a rebuild! :banghead:

This just in. I drained my tanny fluid to get ready to remove the tranny and only about a quart and a half came out. before all this i checked it(warmed up in neutral) and it read full. I filled it back up and it toook about 4 1/2 quarts, started it and it was fine. Added about another half court after it was warmed up. Have no idea why it read full and then so little came out?????????????
