2G Auto Transmission problem. Help.

My buddys leaving for the army next week so i told him i would help him out and get his car back on the road while hes gone for the next 5 months. Awhile back the tranny went and he installed a new one. Car would barely move. Felt like the brakes were completly locked up or you were driving a stick and had the clutch half pushed in.

He sold the tranny and bought another one and it does the same thing. I would like to have someone take some detailed photos of all the wires coming off the tranny to make sure there all hooked up the right way. Its a wiring mess. He was told it was in limp mode and would be stuck in 3rd gear but would this make it feel the same way while in reverse? It barely moves when the car is floored in D and in R.

I was wondering what a bad torque converter would do. Ive never owned a auto myself so this is stuff im not to sure with. Im sure with this site i can get everything squared away on it. Ive had much luck with the help of you guys on all my other dsms ive owned..

Maybe its just the wrong transmission. Did they make a jdm tranny that will fit into a 2g. This tranny had a cable VSS.

Did you guys replace the torque converter when you replaced both transmissions?
If not I am 100% sure its the torque converter.

Nope 2 different used ones were used.. It slips like no other.. It will move forward but it revs to about 3500 before it budges in reverse.

What would cause 2 transmissiyns to seem like they are slipping... Im not 100% sure but i think this might of been what the stock transmission was doing. When he got the they had rigged up a switch and it acted like a high stall. He ripped it out and it looks as if all the wires ,were reconnected the proper way.

Sounds to me like a faulty TCU. If it was on the same converter I would still make the same assumption. When a converter goes, it takes a lot of RPM to get it to move but it's just like a slipping clutch. Not like what you described with driving with the brakes on. Also don't rule out a bad servo, seems strange, but couple be.

I have good tcu i took out of a running car, no change when swapped. I should have stated that.

i would try another tcu or take the cover off and check the tcu. i had one that would act funny it would shift hard in ever gear and the car would be sluggish. i put in a new tcu and it worked great.

I have an extra tcu that i took out of a car and tried did the same thing as its doing now.. Slipping really bad. But the tcu back in the other car and it worked fine.

Meh...2G auto's dont use cables, you have a problem there, maybe you have a 1g transmission in a 2g somehow. Sounds like a line pressure problem.

Here is a picture on a few plugs i am unsure of. The one that circled blue has 3 wires coming from the trans but the plug on the harness has 3 wires. The last tranny had 4 on the tranny side but i dont know how many was on the original tranny. And the one circled red, its plug was different and didnt plug into the harness so he cut the plug off the other tranny and wired it in. The wires are the different colors..

So after some research, its looks like the wires (circled red) only came on jdm trannys... FAIL...
And my buddy dropped off the other tranny he bought.. Same thing....

Yeah I suck...
I just checked my ebay and the title of the Auction I bought that trans from says "JDM Mitsubishi AWD transmission" . I had NO clue thats what they meant by JDM or even that there were 2 different auto trannies. :/ all that work, 2 seperate times for nothing. I hope I do better in the Army haha
