Auto Transmission Noise

My friend has a 91 Talon AWD with an Auto Transmission. It has been sitting for about a year and we are close to trying to start it. Today we hooked up a battery to it and turned the key to the "on" position and when we shifted it to Drive or Reverse the transmission made a sound like a solenoid was switching on and off or something non stop. I have no idea what it could be. If anyone has any idea let me know, I'm very curious.

Is it a clicking noise?

He did say solenoid. This is gonna be difficult without a video. The A/T is full of solenoids and valves.

First off, how is the fluid?

Is the fluid showing on the dipstick?

What color is it?

Sitting for a year is saying that the fluid needs to be changed pretty bad (use ATF+4 fluids). Plus with sitting, prob the torque converter has drained itself out along with the pump being dry of fluid.

When you get the motor going, shift it into NEUTRAL and let it sit for while to get the pump primed up and get the fluids circulating through the valve body. Then, while in NEUTRAL, check the fluid level on the dipstick.

My 2G auto trans will make a slight humming sound if it's put in gear while the car isn't running. I've had to do this to take my dash apart (move the shifter out of the way), and the trans will make a light hum sound until you place it back in Park or Neutral.

Not sure what's causing it, but it's been normal since I bought my car with 60K on it, and I've never had a problem with the trans...

Mine has done the same clicking thing as well by the sounds of it, it was one of the solenoids pulsing on the valvebody. I started it up and it functioned fine.
