Hi everyone yes i used the search button. i have a 2ga 96 gsx auto.the shaft that goes from the transmission to transfer case.what is the proper way to remove this and reinstall.

Thanks. its line with the passenger axle on a 2g looks like ill have to wait for the repair book in the mail.theres no 2g auto awd info i can find for this.i might have to take pics and do a brief write up for everyone

Its siezed in the tcase so i was gonna take a sawzall to the shaft wich is going to take forever.i even drilled a pilot hole 1/4 inch deep or so to use an air hammer,no luck.id like.to replace the seal also wich i think has to be accessed from the inside.thanks for your suggestion

Well, just so you know you are going to be in hard luck to find a replacement output shaft, they have been discontinued for several years, and the tcase input sleeve is a $300+ part. I would be recommending searching for a replacement trans and tcase in your future as that will likely pan out easier and cheaper than the individual parts or repairing the problems you have and are making for yourself.

I got a replacement tcase for 90$ finally found the shaft$100 its on the way.theres another i found after for 50$ i might get as a backup .im still waiting on the repair book.does any one off hand no the part number for the shaft seal on the trans side?

96 gsx auto I finally got around to getting this done today.it was much simpler than expected. For any of you that happen to siezed shaft in the tcase and dont want to split the engine and trans. slide the tcase out til it hits the oil pan.i bought a harbor freight 7 inch grinder since it was slim n size without the shield had just enough to cut throug it.a slightly bigger cut off wheel will work.the seven inch barely reaches to get through it all the way .if u put the long bolt on the bottom of the tcase in the short hole it will support the tcase and let it slide to the oil pan.then cut away.it only took 5-7 minutes to cut through.luckily no sawzall LOL.center diff is easy to remove.just make sure to have the right o ring for diff cover.i took one off a ford fuel diesel fuel filter bc dealer gave me wrong seal.center dif had a threaded hole for a way to pull to pull it.i rotated the shaft and used a nice pic and it popped right out.it was harder to put back in used the same technique reinstalling it minus the the pick rotate the shaft while pushing wiggling the diff until it starts to seat in the upper gear.then u can use a large socket and rubber mallet to tap while some one slowly spins the shaft counter clockwise if your under the car facing it.the apply dif cover with new seal.be careful my bearing race fell out of the cover with a thin shim dont loose the shim.i can only.imagine what a few thousands of play in the bearing could casue over time and leave debris in the trans

I wish mine was that easy i used two pairs of name brand vice grips not hf junk.i even drilled a pilot hole and used an air hammer.still no luck.i was on a time crunch and didnt have the time or extra help to split the engine and at trans.it went very quick with the 7" cut off blade on the grinder.
pull t case off enough to get a pair of vice grips on the shaft, then take a pry bar on against the vice grips/t case. Works every time.
