Auto trans problem

Ok, my wife got a 91 awd tsi it started to have trans problem it was stuck in 3rd gear, or fail safe mode so we replaced the tcm, then it would came out of 3rd gear and it would drive normal, but now we put in into dirve the trans acts like it kicks out of gear then starts to go again, then kicks out again and keeps doing it untill you put it into frist, and then you can put it into dirve and it gos fine. untill you come a stop it wont start from drive again.

help please tell me we dont need a new trans but owell if we do

It MIGHT need a trans or a solenoid or something sounds like a solenoid
