Auto Tranny wont Shift.

I have a 1996 Eagle Talon 2.0 Non Turbo 420a automatic. It will not shift out of first gear. It goes into reverse fine and works in first just fine just wont shift. The overdrive light on the dash will turn on and off with the button on the shifter and I have tried shifting it manually and just by running up the RPM's and still wont shift any ideas.

Try 1/2/and drive with od off..See what all works and come back and post that information please..

We know the manual gear, reverse is working.So we got that info.

I tried it with od on and off. Tried just in second and just in drive with no difference.

Please clarify..You tried 1, and 2, and then 3 with od off. 2 and 3 dont work?

So you have reverse and first,Fact..

That is correct, I tried all gears with the od off then again with od on and the results were the same. Reverse and First work fine. Just cant get it to shift. I can run it up to 5000rpm and still wont shift. It will stay in gear the whole time.

Now to find the answer..I SHALL be back..

Heres what I have so far, check fluid, possibly replace fluid and filter..I know the napa filter is badass.

Take out the TCU, take the cover off it and see if the board is ok...Drive the car with the tcu unplugged..You should have reverse and 3rd gear now....

Or you could hot wire the trans..To see if it is the tcu..

But do what ^ said first.

Will try the filter next along with unhooking tcu. Thanks for the advise so far.
