Well, over the past few months my transmission has been getting worse with slipping into 3rd gear. Finally it wont shift into it at all sometimes and it has trouble going into drive and reverse from park. I got a qoute for a tranny rebuild, they said it could be upwards of $2,200, $1,300 of that being for labor. Anybody have any input on this, it is a very reputable shop but i dont know if i want to fork out $2,200 for a stock rebuild. Any opinions are welcome.

Basically, it depends where you live. Labor is about or more expensive than the parts itself. My rebuild cost me 1100 dollars but I end up paying 1800 for the stall, shift kit, end clutches, and the transmission cooler. Or maybe i payed a little more :p

Yea I ended up paying over 2000 in parts(all IPT heavy duty stuff) and labor from a reputable shop about 3 months ago. I shopped around for many shops and finally found one that I found comfortable doing work on my baby ;) . Anyways, the tranny has been great since the rebuild and so far am happy with the IPT parts.

Alright guys, i took the pan off the tranny to check for anything, metal etc. The pan is clean but the filter is very dirty. So tomorrow im changing the filter/gasket and having the tranny flushed to see if that cures the problem, But was is this bolt? Is it a second drain plug or something? I took the plug out of the pan and drained it from there but i feel dumb not knowing what this one is.

Also, how much tranny fluid should i put in? I was just going to put some el cheapo stuff in till i get to the place to have it flushed, then i was going to put the B&M trickshift in. Anyone ever used trick shift or have opinions on another kind to use?

An alternative to taking it in for a flush is changing the fluid and filter and repeating the fluid change like 2 or 3 times for a flush effect. I'm very wary about taking the car to a trans shop for a flush because their main interest is doing rebuilds and as such there's more than a good chance they will try to get you for one. Personally I feel the national chain shops use the flush job as a way to get rebuild business in the door. I'm also wary about having some guy at K-mart fool around with the trans flush.

I paid $2,000 for a rebuild at aamco because
1) thought they were capable of doing a profesional job and
2) thought their wuarentee was solid
BUT found out different and it was a competely miserable experience all around :(

A mitsu dealer quoted $1925 for a re-manned trans plus labor (fwd) and I guess that could get pretty expensive too depending on what the labor cost are and whatever else they'd be trying to get you for (ever see what a dealer tcu costs :notgood: )

I'd recomend finding a reputable dsm or import shop and going with some upgraded parts based on HP and driving style. I'd rather pay a few hundred extra bucks to get the job done right the 1st time rather than fooling around with the chain stores.

Yes someone please tell us what that one is for because I've been draining trans fluid out through there on fluid changes but don't know if I'm supposed to be doing that or not
