A friend of mine is going to sell me his automatic gsx and I am wondering should I keep it or try and sell it and hope to find a 5spd gsx. Im going to be taking it to the drag strip alot but I still want to keep it streetable enought for weekend drives. I want to hear some of the auto guys opinions and some of the 5spd guys opinions thanks

Ive had both, a 2g auto and a 1g 5speed...both can be made fast, and both can be fun to drive...automatics are better for drag IMO, more consistent times are always better.

But, the 5 speed is more fun to drive, and it takes less money and time to make fast.

If the auto is clean i say keep it! buy a shift kit, a high-stall torque converter, and a bigger trans. cooler...you will be right there with manuals! :thumb:

I've had both, and I am lovin' the automatic right now. But, that's me, and I like some comfort for a DD. The manual is more fun, but the auto is a lot more convenient.

my first car was auto.

After that all stick shift. Somedays i dont feel like shifting. But honestly, once i start driving that feeling goes away. Nothing can compare to having complete control over your cars gears.

Stick with auto for drag! LOL.

If you want a drag tranny you need to look at having that one built. IPT is a good place to start. A/T DSM's are also about 100lbs heavier then their 5spd counter-parts.

i am running a automatic and Looking to click off a 12.9x hopefully! My buddy and his dad both have autos, here is his website atdsm.com There is some good information he shares there, and his dad with the 1g is now flowing at 63 lbs/min!!!!

I have a a/t and i love it. i have killed so many cars with my lil automatic. i have also had a s/t. i like the convenience of not shifting, and just cruisin! You dont see too many autos out there, so id say stick with the auto, nothin wrong with that for sure!

Thanks you guys rock. I really appreciate all the input. Im really glad the auto will also work out. I will be drag racing the car alot so I think the auto will be worth my while.

I have an auto as well and I enjoy it. It's not quite as much fun as a manual though. Since you plan on drag racing the car definately stick with the auto. I run mine at the track every now and then and the only downside is the lack of power from the line. Even when you stand on the brake and have the e-brake up the car will still pull forward so I recommend doing some beefing up of the trans. As stated IPT is a great starting point and later down the road when money is available you can always go with a Shep trans.

Keep the auto and do the full pressure line mod for the track and your good to go for cheap. I've seen stock auto trannies run in the 10's.

I want to see more info on the 100% line pressure mod. I am just not sure how to do it for my 2g!
