i just purchased ARP head studs for my 6 bolt 4g63... and i was wondering what i would torque them to...

do i just torque them to whatever the spec is normally? or is it different being that they are ARP head studs?

thanks!

so basically...
1 lube them
2 put them in the block
3 put head on
4 more lube
5 torque all in sequence to 30, than all again to 60, than all again to 90

??????

just making sure, this is my first full DSM build, wanna make sure i do it right

thanks!

If it's done right the machine shop honing your block will do so with a torque plate. When this process is done the plate is torqued to spec (whatever spec is being used, be it 80ft/lb or 90ft/lb with moly lube or 120ft/lb with 30w oil) then the cylinders are honed. When you assemble the motor, this same torque spec needs to be used to ensure proper cylinder shape. If the motor is already done and it wasn't honed with a torque plate just torque them to 80ft/lbs with moly lube in the 3 step torque process.

One last thing place the washers that came with your arp studs in the head first, then drop in the head

well ive built engines before, just never used ARP studs, just was wondering if there was a different torque spec and process to using them...

thanks

the box of ARP comes with a sheet of papper that has the torque spec on it and how to install them too

Theres a little sheet that comes with them. Big difference is the torque using the moly lube or regular motor oil. I thought I was smart getting all 6 point craftsman sockets until I got the ARP's

The washers can be a pain if you dont put them on the head first on a 1g, the springs get in the way
