Thanks for the feedback, I had read through your prior post earlier and it definitely helped to get things straightened out.

I have a few people locally that used Megasquirt alot on their 280z but again, I haven't done much with it myself either. The only experience I have had with tuning was on the SAFC for my GST. I really think that a stronger system is going to be needed for my goals such as link, or ecuflash.

I actually still have my old SAFC1 sitting in a box back at my parent's garage from a few years ago and wouldn't mind using it initially but need a good option for logging other than a palm.....

The reason I am not a fan of the SAFC setup is because while you can compensate for the fuel, you can't compensate for the change of ignition timing. It's rather bad, actually. I would save up for an EPROM unit and Link, ostrich, or even a burned chip - that way you can touch everything in your setup and not just lie to the ECU about air-flow.

Megasquirt is.....I dislike it more than a Safc, honestly. You can make good numbers with a SAFC, heck, this talon ran an 11.4 on a safc with a 16g and 550cc injectors - then again it was tuned by Don Polk himself. When it boils down, though, you'll get the best tuning ability from Eprom editing or a stand alone. So either a Flashable ECU, Chip Burning, Eprom Emulation, or Link. Link and the flashable ECUs allow for scanning/logging, however, where the others do not or are more complicated.

IMO Link is the way to go. Im still new with it but I can already see that you can do a lot with it.

Yeah I wish I had the talon still and it was running cause it would make these gto guys on base look like little girls

wow my eclipse looks funny with mustang wheels on it. At least they fit for loaners

I passed you going the other direction about 30 mins ago with the ole 1g trailing behind you. I must say those mustang wheels didn't look half bad on that 1g.

I bet that VR4 you got would put a hurting on em as well.

that yellow gto your talking about would destroy the vr4 with ease. 408 stroker motor cam yada yada yada the works. hes a guy who retired from my shop and all i can say is its fast before he did the engine now its crazy fast.

Well another disappointment with the new car. Was hoping that a new master slave and clutch line would solve my disengagement problems but I have come to believe that it is probably a toN problem. If I'm going to completely drop the tranny might as well do a new clutch pressure plate flywheel and main seal while I'm at it. Another 500$ my wife wont be happy I'm spending LOL.

Actually I just ordered an F1 stage 3 6 puck clutch with fidanza flywheel, complete engine gasket kit to replace rear main seal while I am down there, and ordering the OEM throw out bearing from extremepsi in the morning. Once I drop the tranny I'll check the condition of the pivot ball and clutch fork to see if they need to be replaced. Entire cost with the fork, ball, and misc is only 485 considering I do all the work myself. Should give me a solid foundation for throwing power parts on it in the winter

How much power do you plan on turning out of this project? A six puck might be a little to extreme for a mainly stock engine. Still yet if you were to go to an ACT street clutch...(idk on what the clamping pressure is on them exactly but i know its higher than oem) might be a better way to go until you start turning out enough to need a six puck. Six pucks are more of a drag setup in my opinion. When I put a clutch kit in mine i bought an Exedy OEM clutch kit. It came with throw out bearing. I bought the ACT street light flywheel. So far it has been a good combination. I didn't want to go to a real aggressive clutch right off cause my other supporting mods don't justify in needing one.

I had a 6 puck in my last GST with moderate mods and didn't have any issues. For this car I am going for 400+ up as this is purely a toy and will not be anywhere close to a daily drive. A nice weekend warrior for me. Ive had enou DSMs to realize the pain of trying to DD a project...

Also as for the TOB I have had horrible luck with aftermarket bearings and since the OEM is only 30 I'd rather not risk it. I plan on some pretty serouis launches in the future, especially after my winter plans.

What HP are you putting known with the Exedy OEM style?

Before, now, and until the end of time, I will forever preach the TMZ Southbend to anyone who will listen. Kevlar full face with a stock pedal feel - 650ft/torque. Doesn't glaze. Easy to slip, and safe. Oh, how I love that clutch. A little pricey, but well worth the cost.

TMZ Performance

As for the 400hp range - I'm aiming for 450-500 and plan on driving the car on a semi-daily basis. That HP range is nothing to be afraid of. ;) Just do it right.

I don't know the exact number but this is my DD. Its completely stock with just a few upgrades. Nothing real serious just an intake, Meagan SS cat back, Meagan test pipe, ACT streetlight flywheel, and a tubular manifold. I used the Exedy TOB with the kit but I also packed it with the pink high temp grease instead of the purple stuff that came in the kit. So if I had to put a number on it I would guess somewhere between 220- 230 range but that is just a guess. On another note i am beginning to wonder about my boost gauge. It says I'm hitting 11 lbs. of boost when I'm WOT but I am not running a MBC. IDK if my boost gauge is off or maybe my waste gate spring is sprung but if the spring was messed up I would figure it would be over boosting or something else all together. Any thoughts.

That's actually about right where it needs to be.

Side note : Anyone interested in a Bushmaster XM15-E2S?

I have the xtd 6 puck and still semi-dd mine, love it. Great peddle feel, can slip it and holds like no other. I do agree with kei though. Have heard nothing but great things about the southbend.

Do you deal with a lot of chatter with that clutch?

With the initial break in was a little chatter, after 300 miles, probably less, it went away. Was really grippy too, but now it feels almost as stock with a little heavier peddle, not much though.
