Ok well my G/f recently purchased one of these GST Cars. Its a 99 with about 156K miles on it.First off i dont know anything about these import cars.I know alot about mustangs thats it.but i do turn wrenches for a living so everything is just nuts and bolts.. im not wanting to upgrade anything on this car performance wise just changing the Turbo hoses into metal tubes and thats it.
Just Wondering if theirs anythign i need to know about these cars. What to look out for and what to improve without buying anything... Blow off valve... Filter... Tubes.... anything ???? what helps these cars out, do they make programmers for these things or just need basic info on them.
any help would be great or knowing where to get info on them would be excellent

First thing you need to do is maintenance, timing belt being one of the most important, and do both not just the main belt, not changing these and all related pulleys and tensioners will destroy a motor on these. change the fluids, filters etc.

do the maintenance and then read the faqs on this forum. A lot is explained and if you have any questions just ask.

How much will i be spending on timing belts, pulleys, and tensioners?
And how hard is it to install..?

the kit with the 2 belts and all the pulleys is usually around 200 and the tensioner is usually around 100, get one from the dealer dont try to save 20 bucks and buy an aftermarket one

about a 3 hour job give or take

so should i worry about crank walk or not ????

this cars a DD so its not going to get very little mods... only mods it will get is Cold Air Intake,Replacing the turbo hoses with pipes and lowering springs... other than that it has a ported and clipped turbo from what the previous owner said and thats it.... thats all it will get,so should i worry about anything with those mods ?????

theres a thread in one of the tech forums about checkin for crankwalk by turning left i believe and stepping on the clutch, if its ssofter than normal its a good indication of crankwalk. read through some of the tech forums and you'll learn alot about what makes these cars run

crank walk, crank walk......120,000 and u get it on 4g63 the majority of the time

Seriously, he doesn't know what he's talking about. You'll be fine as long as you stay on top of the maintenance. You don't sound like a noob when it comes to cars so, you guys should be cool. I'd go K&N on the intake though. I crossed 120k a few months back and I'm running stronger than ever.

oh ok thanks again for the help.we will have this car for a while i know that.so once this motor gives,Its getting a nice Stroker with the biggest turbo i can get.but if it never breaks then it wont :( but it will only have the bolt ons i listed..
this might be another money pit once my Cobra is paid off LOL , right now my cobra has a Built motor,Built drivetrain and about to up the boost some more !!! right now its sitting at 520rwhp/490rwpt on 20lbs of boost

I'm on my second 2G with over 130,000 - no crank walk yet.

Search on "poll crankwalk" there are a number of threads on this.

Yikes not always the best idea. make sure everything else gets built up, and its a fwd so you might want to keep a smaller turbo or think about awd. Time to start ding some real research.

ill upgrade everything dont worry.. i have about 25k in my 96 cobra.. everything is upgraded.from rear end to hell even washer fluid LOL but i will do it right if everything goes as planned
