So I just got my Evo III big 16g. Installing it on friday.
I'm running stock fuel system, except for the pump.
I'm just wondering if anyone has good experiance with the PocketLocker?
Does it monitor knock accuratly?
I just want to know how much boost I can run, without gettin more than 7 counts of knock, before i get my injectors.

Or if you know of any other good, simple, cheap dataloggers with the capability to measure knock.
Eventually I will get ECMlink but i just need something cheap for the mean time.

You can run MMCD for free from a palm, etc. Yes they work pretty well.

Another option for tuning, you could run ostrich and Jackal. The new version of Jackal is $20. It has full tuning capabilities, timing, fuel, etc. They've been tuning speed density for years now.

Heres a link if you'd like to check it out.

It has a built in logger which logs as fast as the ecu allows, with cell tracking etc, as well as reading and clearing trouble codes. Its about as easy as speed density gets. They supply base maps, just set injector size and your running.

Thanks for the links man. :thumb:

MMCD seems like it would do what I'm looking for...
How would I go about going from where I am right now, to sitting in my car with MMCD on my palm, logging?
Any links to a MMCD setup tutorial?

But, I'm also liking the looks of Jackal. Seems very similar to DSMlink.
What all do i need to get Jackal going?
I see that the programs $20, but what would i need on top of that?
Navigating on the site seemed kind of confusing to me..:ohdamn:

Much thanks!:talon:

Edit: Nevermind i found what i need to get Jackal running.
Am I going to need an EPROM ECU for all types of logging or tuning? Even MMCD?
Because if it comes down to that, I'll just wait and and run low boost until i get DSMlink.

No problem. The logging cable plugs into your odb1 port under the driver side dash. Heres a link for making your own cable but it talks about mmcd and where to plug in.

Also any of the odb1 cables will work, heres a cable and mmcd software kit for $34(make sure to get oem plug, not spades)
Welcome to DSM Cables - DSMCABLES 1G and 2G Datalogger Tools and Kits

Jackal has all the options of link, but Jackal was tuning with speed density for a few years before link was. Its great software created specifically for dsm's, which makes it very easy to tune with. I'll never tune a 1g with anything else. The members of dsmap are extremely helpful and active.

Other then the software, you will need eprom ecu(which you will need for link also). Heres a guide to find out if your running an eprom currently.
Complete How-To
Also contains a full write up on installing Jackal.

If you have eprom all you will need is moates ostrich 2.0, there is probably one for sale in the classifieds. I picked mine up for $100.

You will need an eprom for an real tuning. Tuning and logging use different ways to connect to your car so you will not need anything but a cable to use mmcd or to log in general.

Hope i didnt miss anything, its late. This michigan weather has me extremely bored haha. Clean car btw :hellyeah:

Thanks man! all the info i wanted to know plus more.
I'd totally rep you if i knew how LOL

I'll research those links and PM you if i have any questions. :hellyeah:

Also you should will be able to run up to 15psi safely on a stock system..Check the born on date inside your drivers side door, to find out if you have a 6 bolt or 7 bolt..Early 92 means 6 bolt, late 92 means 7 bolt..Unless it was ordered with a 6 bolt in late 92..

It's a 6-bolt. I think... LOL
6-bolts are May and earlier right?
The brakes are also single piston, which, I'm pretty sure, were change to dual piston, once the 7-bolts were introduced.

I considered 7 counts of knock high, I always shoot for 4 counts or less. Don't just throw on bigger injectors ether, you will need to have something to tune with. You could run pig rich and wash your bearings.

Real easy way to tell right here: How to quickly tell a 6bolt and 7bolt engine apart

MMCD works well for what it is, I used to use one a couple years ago. I now use Jackal. I recommend setting the alarm feature in mmcd for anything over 5 counts of knock. That way you'll know to let off the throttle if you start knocking.

Only the $200 Werewolf version has the map tracing function built in.

I've been using pocketlogger for 10+ years now. I've tried MMCD but its tough to read on the fly where as the pocketlogger software has a nice big display when you log 4 or less parameters which is really easy to read on the fly. My only suggestion is if you go with either of those loggers get yourself a pda with a color screen.
