Anyone use Royal Purple Syncromax in 5 spd tranny?

Just like the title says, does anyone have any opinions on this stuff.

I went to the shop looking for Redline MT90 but the Royal Purple was all they carried.

I figure I'll give it a try, unless I hear any horror stories...

I did but then I blew the diff up. When I got it rebuilt I filled it with GM syncromesh because it's supposed to be better.

I used Royal Purple when I changed out my tranny fluid. It's not bad. It's the only time I've changed it since I bought my car, so I can't compare it to any other products out there, but it was a definite improvement over whatever was in it. I'd use it again.

No I have not. Is it a GL4 spec? What weight is it?

Actually, I have a correction to make. I believe that I actually used Max-Gear, not their Synchromax. It's GL4/GL5 compliant. I forgot they make two different kinds. It seemed to me that the Max-Gear was designed more for transmissions and differentials than the Synchromax. I used 75w90.

That is what I was wondering about, I bought the syncromax and when I got home I went to their website. I then noticed the maxgear that they sell - it seemed to be more suitable than the syncromax - i think i will return it for the maxgear....

Slightly tangentical, but don't use Mobil 1 Synthetic in your tranny. It's too slippery. I went straight from that to Syncromesh 2 and it was night and day.

too slippery? the real reason you don't want to use Mobil 1 Synthetic is because it's a GL-5 rated fluid

I use Mobil 1 synthetic in my rear diff, and for my tranny and transfercase I have Pennzoil synchromesh, but I was also thinking of switching to either BG synchroshift or the Royal purple stuff slowboy has on their website.

That's what the guys at TRE told me. I didn't notice it was GL-5 when I put it in and it shifted badly. They told me GL-5 is too slippery and won't allow the synchros to work properly. I put in BG Synchromesh 2 and it shifts like a champ.

Wow that's like way too thin for the transfer case.

It takes the really thick stuff. IE: Redline Shockproof.

I would be changin' that out ASAP.

I am still unsure if this is the proper type of fluid to be using in my tranny....

That's pretty much it. You'll love how it's actually purple, just like their oil. Kinda cool.
