dsmchip.com chip set for:

720cc injectors
hacked maf
boost gauge shows knock count
no fuel cut/boost cut
other stage 3 settings.

before the ECU I had it tuned with the AFC, although it was -35% when in boost in ran champ, REALLY strong.

I installed the new ECU and it picks up knock ANY time the accelerator is pressed. with the cruise control set at 55 mph if it goes up a slight incline the knock gauge will go straight to the top and you can feel the car loose power. the A/F gauge is showing all green right below the stoich level. I mean we are talking 6% throttle at 2,500 rpms 93octane. it should not be knocking like that, I feel like it is a phantom knock. my logger is messed up right now so I cannot verify the actual voltages or timing.

I asked Jeff about my problems and he of course blaimed it on the car.. just like EVERYONE who has issues. Has anyone else had problems any where near this?

another issue I see is: say you are going 60mph in fifth and let off the gas. in decel. mode the A/F gauge should drop off the meter pretty fast. it has in nie and any other car I have driven. since the ECU went in.. it wil linger around stoich-rich area for awhile before it finally drops off the meter, probably 3-4 seconds.

I had the same exact problem. I tuned and tuned and it never got much better and most of the time just worse. I just said F it and left it alone because there wasn't anything I could do about it and Jeff just said "it's the car" so what the hell?

Well I said f it and kept on modding. I added my ported evo3 16G and 2.5" tubular O2 housing the next week, started the car and went for a drive w/ no other changes and all of my tip in knock and phantom knock problems were gone. Unfortunatly I have no clue why. Only thing that really changed as far as cruise and light throttle positions is much less back pressure. I'd like to say there's a connection but I don't know enough auto science to prove it :)

It's rediculous, mine seems to get MILDY better. meaing I can actualy accelerate in some cases, but cannot gain speed in fifth gear at ANY quick rate.

seeing as you have the same problems and I have heard of several others.. and you check his forum and he blaims the tuning or the car everytime?!? I will give it 4 more days (one week) if it is not better I am going to put the stock ECU back in until I can afford DSMlink.

Sorry I am not trying to hijack the thread but what would happen if you removed the CHIP from the car? I have one tuned for my 680s and EVO 16g and need to smog the car and put in some stock injecters. Will the car run without the chip? Just wondering. :dsm:

It sounds like you have too much timing. That's entirely feasible with the hacked MAF. I'm not sure what all Jeff changes to allow those, but I'm sure it's tricky to make one tune for everybody's version of a hacked MAF which may read a little different.

If you have the SAFC still, increase the low settings in your problem areas. That should get you more fuel and less timing which will hopefully stop the knock. I'd recommend putting the low TPS setting to ~30% which should be a little higher than what you'll have at cruise. That way you're not interpolating between high and low settings.

Another alternative would be to adjust your base timing. You'll need a timing light to do this right. You should check your base timing just in case anyway. Adjust it down a couple degrees at a time and try it out.

Take small steps and tune carefully.

I have a chip from kyle (kpt?) and it cured problems, did not create any. BUT I had a very similar knock problem well before the chip swap. My 1G started knocking and got worse rather quick. It was on the road on a long, few days drive, it became so bad that I thought the motor was on it's way out (212,000+ miles and still going strong). Full counts under any sort of drive, even cruise. Decel was fine and ultra light throttle was sometime fine too. As soon as I got it home I checked everything. Oil was fine, coolant, plugs, belts, timing, etc etc etc... What I found was that under load (even cruise up a slight incline) the motor rocked just enough to contact a metal comp-intercooler pipe against the fan shroud. I had placed an isolator over the area before but it wore through and was more than enough to ruin the driveability of the car. It'd go full rich as timing was pulled and after I fixed the problem it was like a new car. I later also found out that my knock sensor was in the wrong place on the back of the motor, I relocacted it and it seems to be even better. I'd trust the chip for now and recheck things under the hood first. I hope this helps, sorry for the long first post.

It is your car, or more succintly how you have it tuned. Jeffs hacked maf compensation is doing something and you have to tune with that in mind. Maybe you should have him burn you a chip without the hacked map code.

My Bro got one a WHILE back form him with a WACK ASS 8500 RPM limiter. I asked him to send me an updated setup and offered to pay the 20.00 for changes but i have not yet got a reply.

You can goto http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/dsm-ecu/ and learn all you want aobut our ecus.

He used to post there.........................

I think keydiver is burned out on the whole ECU think. :(

Did you zero out your AFC or are you still running -35%? If you still have it at -35 it will be running very lean. Also did you hack the MAF correctly? Did you remove the big honeycomb because if you did the car will be very messed up. It is a very exact thing tuning via the ecu. It is just telling the car you have bigger injectors and using the stock fuel maps. Just like if your car had stock injectors and you ran low boost. I have a 720 chip and a 10K redline (havent gone there yet plus I have a second rev limiter to adjust with) and I have no problems. I would also suspect your car since a chip is a pretty much exact thing.

I xperience this phantom knock problem on occasions with the chip. I recently got an upgraded chip that eliminates the phantomknock. I havent had a chance to install it yet, though. Hopefully, it does the trick.
