Any idea what this noise is in this DSM?

I bought Phunny's 635whp 99 GSX and had it shipped from Indiana to Massachusetts by this ass (although I didn't know it at the time I hired him through uship). Anyways, the GSX is running 20-50 oil and it was cold and required some time to warm up. However since it runs on ethanol its very finicky and didn't want to stay running so the shipper appears to have overrevved the engine and now its knocking like a diesel. I ASSUME it is lifters, but I haven't torn into the engine yet. My guess is a collapsed lifter, but I don't honestly know since I have never heard a collapsed lifter before.

the engine runs and it will idle it just makes all kinds of racket.

Does it change with the rpms?

Yes I believe it does. Its becomes quicker with the higher RPM.
I put a stethascope on it and its loudest right off of the fuel rail/JMF intake connection to the engine actually right in the center. On the sides not so much.

Its lifter tick. Id removed them and install new 3g revised lifters and be done with it. Not a hard or expensive job either

I already bought a new set of lifters, probably going to open up the engine this weekend and work on it

Make sure to bleed the lifters properly so they dont collapse

Thats a good write up to follow. Just do exactly the same and you will be good to go. Dont know if you thought about it or not but replace vc gasket while your there and look at your cam seals. I know it might be a pain to do them but doesnt hurt to check them out. Good luck

forgive me for asking, but what is the vc gasket? I'm new to DSMs and this is my first lifter job other than my 1973 chevelle about 15 years ago
