You don't learn until you break parts, burn yourself a few times, and cut yourself.

What turbo do you have on there and have you ever taken it off before?

:dsm:
Yea I understand that concept of learning but you first need tools which I do not have and the knowledge to know where to start. Thats why I'd prefer to learn from people who have done it. But its cool, i mean i can attempt to do it myself.

As for my turbo, i have the big 16g turbo.

Corey, how does this mani look?

The tools you need are a 12 & 14mm combo wrench, a 12 & 14mm 3/8" or 1/2" drive socket, a 3/8" or 1/2" ratchet, & a breaker bar. You'll also want to get some anti-seize compound and PB Blaster, both sold at Auto Zone.

You can order that manifold from dsmparts.com if you want, I'd go through extremepsi.com though. They have everything there that your going to want to order along with the exhaust manifold.

EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts - Forced Performance DSM Race Manifold: Mitsubishi Eclipse 90-99
The OEM bolts you have won't clear the front of the manifold, extremepsi mentions that and even lets you add those two bolts to your cart. While your doing this swap your going to want to get that 4 layer exhaust manifold gasket and a 7cm SS turbo gasket, both are listed below the FP manifold in that link.

:dsm:

when i ordered my fp race mani straight from form fp it came with new bolts. SD GST-99 where in sd do you live?

ok cool, ima check this website out better. Hey are tubular mani's better then non tubular?

Yeah I'm horrible with names.. Everyone going tomorrow wear name tags haha

tubular manis are good too but you have to Be careful and make sure they are good quality because those crack a lot easier.

If you were interested one of the guys on here in sd is selling his tubular I think it's a dnp.

The only reason why I know what your exhaust smells like Kris is because I was sitting the the stands at Cali Speedway watching you show everyone how NOT to launch their AWD if they want to cut a good 60ft.

You should put the car up on jacks (all 4 wheels) and then drive it, just throw Gracie under the car so she can show you where the vibration's coming from. :thumb: The wifey would like that...

:dsm:

Maybe im confused but didnt you only cut a best of a 2.0that day and a 1.8 so far and I was cutting 1.7's almost pulling the wheels and have always cut 1.7's maybe I should teach you how NOT to launch your car and then I will have a 12's pass in your car.

Unless your 2g manifold is cracked then you are throwing money away see corey what happens when you talk crap we will see who helps you the next time you need some good know how info. rebuild your own dang head. can make a 2g manifold flow just as well as an fp manifold. all you got to do is take the time and put out the effort thats 275 dollars you can use else where and go faster. I know many people that have 10s timeslips on a ported 2g manifold you can do a simple search and see that it is not a restriction untill way later in the game, but what do i know im just a dumb redneck from NC that doesnt know what he is talking about.

Keep the 2g manifold and buy a set of injectors or a afpr they will be required for the 400 whp goal more than the manifold will be. Im sure corey would let that set of 650's go that he just pulled out start saving for a good tuning setup that is what is gonna make all the difference.

Kris is 110% right about that FP manifold, I still run my ported to shit 2g stocker and its working just fine. I do have a set of denso 660's in the closet for a price, you'll just need a fuel pump and a way to control fuel. *cough* I've also got a logger and an SAFCII thats black *cough* :D

I'm just messin' Kris don't get so offended... Heres a picture I dug up of Kris's old DSM he had out in NC, he used it for raccoon huntin'. ROFL

Thanks for the advice man, i wont get it then and get my 2g ported. what about downpipes, high flow cat and exhaust system? would that make a difference too?

I dont get offended by you online tough guy attitude :D. and I don know if you notice but that is a 1gb and i had a 1ga that was my neighbor.

as for the down pipe a 2 1/2 inch down pipe will be fine with a stock cat and a decent exhaust I have always liked the megan exhaust on 1g's and the thermal research and development on a 2g. I highly recommend a wideband to monitor your a/f ratio and a boost controller so when it is time you can see some good numbers on the boost gauge. dont forget though a good clutch is gonna be needed ajnd your gonna spin the crap out of your tires

Hey Corey, how much you selling all that? the injectors, logger and an SAFCII?
Denso 660's - $150 // SAFC II (black with mounting bracket) - $150 // Logger with cable and software - $75

Like Kris said though, do you have a WB gauge? a boost gauge? a boost controller? etc. etc. etc.

Unless your going to start a stock pile of aftermarket parts to look at and wait until you get the right supporting mods I'd spend the money elsewhere.

This is the upgrade path I would take NOW having been there done that... remember you can save a ton of money buying from the classified or US rather than going new! ;) You've already got a 16g on there correct?
1. MAINTENANCE (timing belt, fluids, etc.)
2. boost gauge/boost controller/fp rewire
3. 1g/Evo IX bov
4. 91-94 1g 60mm TB
5. a wideband o2 sensor (NOT a narrowband, they are trash and tell you nothing)
6. intake/filter
7. exhaust (personally I'd get a 3" downpipe and run this --> QTP » Electric Exhaust Cutouts part number QTEC30CP) with the stock cat/catback exhaust.
8. SAFC/logger setup or dsmlink/laptop <-- definitely the better route but you pay for it.
9. fuel injectors/fuel pump (can get 660's and a walbro but you can do it on a budget with evo injectors/pump)
9. TURN UP THE BOOST
10. burn your clutch, NEW ONE.

Hopefully you get the idea, its about supporting mods and monitoring before you start putting down hp. The first few mods are cheapy's that can be done for less than $100 if you find deals. Pretty much everyone on here is atleast to the TURN UP THE BOOST stage, Kris is at the "glue sh!t down in the cabin to keep the dash from ending up in your lap" stage his car pulls so hard.

I followed this upgrade path and failed step 1 clearly. Thanks a lot. :thumb:

ive had my car 6months and it still doesnt run, my choice mainly, doesnt help well someone breaks into my car and takes my afc2........
It doesn't help that its been parked on base untouched for weeks either big guy. It's still odd someone would break into your car ON BASE, someones got some balls do to that. Id just walk around the barracks parking lots looking for the riced out honda/nissan with an SAFC II that looks like yours mounted on the dash, you know it couldn't have gone too far since it was on base...

I'll do it for a #14 Medium Size with a Mr. Pibb to drink (no ice) from Del Taco. I'll even wire it up so it plugs in like the OEM fans and turns on with them too, you still have your old ones?

haha deal! its been about 3 years since ive worked on a dsm, i forgot most stuff, even the small minor things like where to tee stuff off and etc. when i got it, it was ghetto rigged to hell, im trying to undo some stuff, all i need now really is to find a damn apillar that isnt broke, finish all the vacuum lines with the bov, wastegate, boost gauge and obviously the fans. The hole intake situation is still ####ed, i have a 3.5" dejon w/recirc brand new that i cant use.

theres a del taco about a half mile from my house LOL

Whats the intake situation?

All that stuff uses a 3/16" vacuum line and you can buy 10ft of it from AutoZone for $10 if not less. If your bov, wastegate, and boost gauge are THERE and just need vacuum lines shit, just upgrade the meal to MACHO size and I'll run the vacuum lines too.

the intake i have is a 3.5" from dejon, they gave me a spacer so i could go to the 2.25" 14b outlet. well because of the wastegate mount, the coupler hits and wont seat proparly(sp?). and not to mention on intake, the bov is basically right against it so i had to mount it backwards, i just need a good day of working on it with someone to remind of all the little things. ive been out there messing with it all morning

Just out of curiousity who's 1gb with the bus hur fmic is on miramar at the barracks
This one?

Minus the cursive "turbo" in chrome in the very back center of the car it looks pretty damn good too. It does have a GINORMOUS front mount too, no picture of it though. The cars Ohio plated so maybe he's in their local DSM forums?
