Any DSM Mags out there?

I just picked up the new Modified Mag. Every issue has the "DSM Tuning" to a 95-96 Tsi AWD Talon. This monthe they install the PRofec e-01 Boost Controller and a B&B 3" o2 Elimator dp and test pipe:D

So for the past 2 years or so I thought about what I wanted to do as my profession. Now I currently work in the design/layout field. (I put out a monthly newspaper, I design almost everything for it and I also lay it out) So thinking about it, my goal has been to publish a nationwide magazine. (now i know that isnt something that just happens overnight but I thought I would ask some opinions on it and get some feedback) Yesterday I was looking att what was at the news stands and I saw magazines like TIME, and Import Tuner, and Seventeen, etc etc etc. So I was thinking, what magazine could be published that people would want, there is basically a magazine for everything so what magazine could I publish that would have little to no competition? I was thinking a conglomerate of those magazines. Like having News/Politics, Automotive, Fashion/Teen (girly stuff), Outdoors, Cooking etc etc..all balled into one magazine. That way a family could buy just one magazine a month instead of a possible 3+/mo. So my question to you guys is, how would you respond to a magazine like that. Would you buy it? do you think people in your family would buy it? Or do you think there is no marketplace for a publication of that sort?

in my opinion you shouldn't through so many different topics into one magazine... you could do something that could appeal to one group though... say young males... you could take all their hobbies and put it into one magazine i.e. cars, motorcycles, extreme sports, paintball, trucks, and other stuff that appeals to that group... and definately through in some models, but not make it slutty and i think the magazine would sell.. i'd read it. :thumbdown

Stuff, Maixum, FHM are already out there for sultness.

I would recomend less things in the mag, focus on 1-2 area's and kick the compition's ass.

I would do a repitable non girls(mostly ugly to) everywhere magizine, about imports or something, like we have countless of now.

I would write/print something I would be highyl interested in and would want to keep going out and doing.

Try doing a DSM mag. From 3000GTs to EVOs to Eclipses....etc...They have a VW or european mag why not have a DSM mag. I'd love to help in anyway I can if you do deside to go with the idea. :thumb:

good idea, i agree.
Or you could go with something that I would LOVE to see on newstands, a technical car mag. you know, not one w/ ricers and car shows, something like real technology, engineering performance editorial kind of thing. That is what the import enthusiasts need, if we stop w/ the rice mags, then the kids wont buy them and want to put exhaust on their mom's buick. Chevys and fords have these kind of mags, now we need them!

you can do it man, why not make it an online magazine to try it out?
3 friends and I got bored one night and this is what we've got so far. http://www.recklessdrivers.net (dont flame me guys they are the honda owners). Alot of people will say you can't do something but hell try it. You might be trying to do too much content, other people might have failed, but it still might be worth it. I dont see it working because families dont share reading material, how are you going to get articles about nitrous past mom when little jimmy wants to read about how to install it? Dad wont want his daughter seeing the "top 10 ways to turn her on" etc. ;). Magazines today are too vague, if you find some specific content you can make it happen.

just wanderin if anyone knew of any DSM magazines? and if there arent any, then why not??? they have rx7 tuner, honda tech, several mustang and 5.0 mags, f-body mags.... judging by the size of this forum there are a lot of DSM enthusiasts. i know that if they made a mag id subscribe

I hardly see DSMs in magazines. The only one I see that has a regular segment about DSMs is Modified Magazine. They have a green Eagle Talon project car that they are documenting on the magazine. It's an OK magazine, my only complaint is that they cover way too much drag racing/motorsports than actually the cars itself.

Sport Compact Car is a little better but no love for the DSM on those pages, except in the issue where a white 2G GSX and a yellow Z06 Corvette made the cover.

An attempt was made a couple of years ago to get one going, but the realities of magazine distribution scuttled the idea.
DSMs are old cars, rapidly becoming obsolete. In five years, you won't find any that cost more than $2000.

You might not find any 1gs that cost more than $2000 but people are still paying ~$10k for a clean 99 GSX.

IMO dsm's are one of the cars with the most potential for modding and are also one of the most popular cars, both in shows, auto x , drag racing etc. i would love to see a mag produced. luckily we have this forum until a magaizine forms, if it ever does...

Correct, but i would love to see a dsm mag, id have a subscription, and to the dsm's becoming rare, yea im sure they will but look at honda's you can still find all the mid 90s hondas you want, but they are dirt cheap

Dont you guys realize that the magazine could also cover evos cuz they have the "same" engine as dsms. The engine continues and a tuning magazine including evos and DSMs might be a good idea cuz a new market for the evo has just opened up in America.
