Just wondering if there are any downfalls, I already bought and installed a magnetic tranny drain plug. (trannys grinds all the time in 2nd 3rd) I recently bought a magnetic drain plug for the oil pan of my motor. Only thing I could think of being bad is, the magnet somehow coming out of the bolt.

Curious as to how much 'sludge' a magnetic drain plug should pick up in the oilpan on a new healthy motor @ 3k mile oil change intervals.

Anyone with experience in the matter?

If it's brand new, and you're just now changing the oil, a LOT. I was shocked at how much flake was in my 200mile change.

now we're talking 'flake' as in a fine powder that is a grey/silver mush when you actually wipe it off of the magnetic plug right? Not actual shavings/flakes. Guess I have about 6k miles er so on her. Dont have a TON of it collecting, was just curious b/c last night one of my friends with a 1g GSX said his has never picked up anything and I always thought they were supposed to pick SOMETHING up just due to normal wear of an engine.

Well some of it was fine powder. Other parts were flake (think Goldschlagger) But that was when it was BRAND NEW. I haven't changed it for a couple while (a few months) (200miles - yeah, i don't drive it much) But I suspect it's mostly fine powder at this point. It shouldn't do it much after 6K...? Now a tranny, that crap is always sludgy, but I digress. No, I don't think you should be able to see much of anything. It's gonna keep breaking down and all, but not to the point that it should be too visible every 3K miles. Hope all this helped.

cant' say I've ever pulled out goldchlager . . . except when my thrust bearing on the old 7-bolt went, then it looked like I was draining gold out of the pan!!!

Otherwise, I only get a little bit of sludge stuck to the drain plug. How much is a 'little bit'? I'll see about taking a pic next oilchange and post it back here :thumb:

Any others have experience with this?

Does anyone have a source for a Magnetic Oil drain plug for a 96 Talon Tsi Turbo or the actual thread size for the oil drain plug ?

Thanks in advance

Yes, I searched all the forums first

Geez guys, Sorry, I just made a mistake........no one else ever makes mistakes ?

First mistake I have made on this forum since 2004

I wasn't trying to sell anything, just asking a simple question.

I did look on eBay first, and while there are tons of mag plugs, I did not find any that were specific to the 2G Turbo engine and I did not know if all the 2G engines used the same size plug.........if I had I wouldn't have posted in the first place

Thanks to DGajre777 for the link.
