I am looking at a new clutch for my 97 talon. Have an older hd 4000 from sbr and it seems to be slipping like crazy and was not even at 25psi yet.
Have heard the act 2900 with street disc will do the job ok. My car is street car and won't be seeing the track more than once or twice to get hopefully something in the 10s.
I have auto race car that will be permanent track car. I don't want a twin disc have one in my 99 trans am and it rattles when you put it in neutral and its not overly street friendly.

Also wondering if a broken center diff can give the same symptoms as a badly slipping clutch? I am tearing engine out to fix spun bearing and will of course be changing ,inspecting the clutch at that time.

I went 10.80's on a 2900/street disc combo. It didnt like a good launch on the Hoosier QTP's. Did ok on street tires but it would normally just fry all 4 tires which would lessen the load on the clutch due to not grabbing. If you are certain you dont want to go up to a twin ( QM ) then the act will do it. I have also tried it with a 6 puck sprung and it shifted better but eventually toasted the tranny. Big pressure plate and usually dsm shit tranny, good buy syncros and 3rd gear ring.

I have no plans to run drag tires just street tires. As said my 97 is my street toy. It will only see the track once or twice and it will get kicked off at 11.5 or less it has no roll bar and is not getting one.

My auto talon is my dedictated track car. So if the 2900 and street disc can survive daily driving at 20psi or so with my setup and occasional run at maybe 25 to 30psi again on street tires that should be sufficient for me. Are the new act street discs pretty good for not coughing springs?

I also have to still take car apart to see if the hd 4000 is shot ,it only had 5000 miles on it and never had it much past 20psi and only on street tires. My 60fts were terrible though last time I ran the car. So either center diff is gone or the HD 4000. Wouldn't have thought could fry the hd 4000 on street tires either.

Never had a problem with springs but I didnt run the puck very long before the tranny gave. In my opinion you will be fine with the street disc from what you said you will be running ET/horsepower wise and driving style IE: street tires.

I had a 2600 runnin 10.50's but it didnt last long i went to a 6puck and its worked great so far lasted me all of last season and still has plenty of grip left
