K, My power antenna is goin out, it makes a weird noise evertime it goes up.
I want to shave the rear, antenna, wing, wiper. so I need another alternative got reception so I call still get local radio.

for those with shaved antenna's, what did you relaced it with?

my eclipse has the antenna in the rear window, embedded in the glass, it works great for me.
some other people take some antenna wire and run it around the truck lid but i dont know how well that works.

The antenna in my rear window sucks. I can only get like one station. I disconnected my antenna when it made this loud buzzing sound for about 15 seconds whenever it came up.

You can always just go with XM or Sirius.

I shaved mine over and put a solid antenna going lengthwise across the inside of the rear quarter panel. It picks up the few stations I used to listen to, but I rarely bust out the radio.

Also, your 2gb Eclipse should have an antenna in the rear window as well. It's towards the top of the glass and looks like weird lines above the defroster lines.

yea, I get that loud buzzing sound, its like 10 secs or so, with the antenna up, I use to get all my preset stations, not I Only get three.

where's the problem, in the radio or the antenna itself. I guess I'll swap in another stock radio to narrow it down

Here's a thread I started on it a couple years back (Here).

Ha I bumped that thread..damn newbs.

Maybe you can figure it out on yours. I barely listened to the radio anyways. I just listen to CDs. Only time I really regretted not having my antenna was when I went to a drive-in movie. Had to hang those bigass 1970s box speakers on my window.

I recently installed an antenna while getting some body work done, did require a bit of fabrication to install it where the rear squirter was... but since you are looking at doing some body work why not - if you like it of course.

They have a few others that I would consider for my car as well. Hope this helps.

Although I can tell you the price has gone up signifcantly since I purchased this piece.

Thanks,

Ok,let me start by saying I hate antennas on our cars,I feel that unless you have a truck with a CB there is no need for one and it makes the car look bad. That is just my personal opinion and I'm not trying to put anyones car down.

I shaved the antenna on my old 91 laser, welded in some steel, minimal bondo, and it looked great..no wing made it super smooth in the back. The answer to your antenna problems is an amplified antenna that can be mounted inside the car pretty much anywhere you want.I found mine at Pep Boys for around $23 3 years ago and it can't be more expensive technology now so...it should be around that much.

I went out and took a pic of where it is mounted now in the 97 Spyder, its getting dark so its not the best shot.I'll try to remember to take another in the daytime tomarrow but you get the idea.I can't compare the reception to the stock antenna because I pulled the power to that the day I bought it so it would not stick up.

That would be it...have fun with mounting and try not to leave it under the seat for 2 years like I did.:D

Pfft, my radio doesn't even GET reception. None whatsoever, no matter what station or where I am. I'm going to just shave it and get a hidden antenna kit. I think my problem is a bad ground or something, no idea on why it doesn't work.

okay i searched the forums, i dunno how well, but all i saw was a majority of 2g's that had these kinds of threads and im unsure if they have the same antenna setup as 90's. anyways on a 90 and a non power antenna car, how do i unscrew the antenna? i need to go through a car wash! i tried grabbing the base and twisting with pliers, it didnt budge.

there are four grooves at the base, do i have to do something there?

thanks

that is the only way to get it off. Make sure you use PB blaster or you'll twist it off. :dsm:

I shaved the antenna on my 1ga. It was easy as pie. I still have to have it repainted though. Here's some pics.

a layer of fiberglass underneath

then bondo-ed and sanded on top

did the same thing with my rear windshield wiper...

The way I see it, I never listen to the radio as is, and I'm getting XM as soon as the car is running. And I live in Arizona so I never need the wiper.

I shaved my antenna aswell. But it was a bi*** to get off. I actually think I ended up using a sawz-all to get it off. which it didnt really matter anyways since I was doing bodywork, but geez, what a PAI.

I can not get the power antena off my 97 GST. Are there any tricks, or special tools? Like something that connects to the 4 grooves on the top?
You can try removing it by placing a small flathead screwdriver in one of the grooves and either pushing it or tapping it with a hammer in the proper direction. That's what I did when I had to replace mine. Just be careful not to slip and scratch something. Good luck.
